No offense, but that "Svend Vath" guy isn't ambient at all. It's like. . . whatever it is . . . club music. That's not my idea of ambient at all.

Sven vath has had some ambient works. I can't name any as I'm not really into his stuff (the more dancy stuff anyway). Check www.betalounge.com and search for him in the past shows section, you should find a five hour set starting with ken ishi then sven and lastly jah wobble. Exellent! Enjoy.

squarepusher "hard normal daddy" is fucking genius. 1st song is bizzare funk basslines, 'shaft style' guitar drum'n'bass and crazy ambient bits, don't know how to describe it but next time i decide to trip i'm listening to it

Don't forget Robert Rich, he creates an ambient soundscape like nobody else (someone else might but for the purposes of of this post we'll just ignore that). Rather than being straight 'music', its more a soundtrack to a landscape (some of it is for movies). Check out the album 'Stalker' with B. Lustmord, it is much more dark than general ambient stuff but certainly very powerful. Apparently it was written to be a soundtrack for a swampy type landscape but I always have felt like I was in a barren world where nothing stirred but my own thoughts. Stalker is the best stuff Robert Rich has done though so see if you can find that online or perish the thought actually buy the cd (it is worth it). I'd sample it first though to see if you like it. Other notables: The song 'analogue relaxation' by Antiloop (ambience personified). Most stuff from the future sound of london, specifically the cascade album I think is rather good. I personally prefer the deep forest self titled album to la boheme, mainly because I believe it is more ambient. Early Delerium is very ambient. Generally most of your common electronic 'stars' out there have produced a few ambient tracks. Leftfields 'Likwid' and that Antiloop song I mentioned earlier are good examples of this.

oops, i mean groove armada - likwid. leftfield - a final hit is a good ambient(ish) track from them. Some good aphex ambient tracks that are not on SAW 1/2 are: flim, IZ US, Supremecyll, alberto balsalm, to cure a weakling child, most of analogue bubblebath (if not all). Also the super nintendo donkey kong country games 1 and 2 have a really good ambient soundtrack to them. I often found myself pausing the game and lying back and listening. If you're lucky you might be able to download the mp3's from somewhere. The game is actually quite good btw.

some people have pretty strange ideas as to the definition of ambient music uuh deftones? theyre good but ambient? whaddya listen to when ya wanna get all revved up? anyways look for klaus schulze's mid 70's album - timewind blackdance is good too, but timewind is 30 minutes of pure magic bliss, no beats pure analog synth spacewash.

As ive seen posted on the other post, i support Tool for trippin like nothing (i like it anyway ) another good one is sasha-expander, if you like kinda a techno low sound. Apex twin is crazy, on alot of their songs, some of them are just to fast and hard distortion for me to like tripping. i really enjoy ambient music when im driving in the country during the day, it really makes me feel good. you should also listen on the soul fly cds, they always have a song that is just music, nice calm, and very melodic. i normally go to dancerecords.com and buy vinyls for dj'in and get some ideas for music to chill too. oh and deftones rock it too, and incubus. there are so many good musicians, its hard to get em all! im totally going to look into svend vath though! peace rain
