Chronic upset stomach

My stomach and intestines are upset about 50% of my life.
Pretty weird considering I eat a very healthy and varied diet, low in dairy products and red meat, high in fiber.
It is not exactly painful, just very uncomfortable.
My stool is perfectly normal and I shit at least two times a day.
My doctor tried to prescribe me Prilosec which I declined because I want to cure the problem, not treat it.
Anyone have the same problem and figure out what was wrong?
This makes me very cranky.

Nope.
What's it do?
I'll give it a go.
p.s. I also don't take drugs or drink much at all, though I do smoke too many cigarettes.

hah, sounds just as pleasant
cigs are known to affect metabolism, but to be feeling sick 50% of the time would even suggest something like a stomach ulcer, or something less serious, but you did say its not painful.
I used to have a similar problem, but after giving up most sugar, carbonated drinks, artificial sweetners and basically cutting way down on red meat and etc... that was pretty much all solved.
as tedious as it sounds, you might be able to narrow it down to a particular food by limiting your diet. Also adding some extra foods that help digestion may relieve some of the discomfort.
Try getting some fennel... tastes like licorice.. you usually eat it after your meals to help digestion.

I also have incredibly high metabolism.
6'2 150lbs.
I eat ALL day, smacks and meals, and I'm still hungry.
I never gain any weight.
Fennel you say?
It's probably a tapeworm.

also, too much fiber will cause upset stomach. i noticed you said your diet is high in fiber.
Quote:
However, having too much fiber in one’s diet can cause problems. When the intake of fiber is too high, it can replace other energy and nutrients that you need in your diet. Some insoluble fibers bind certain minerals, including calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, and iron. Too much fiber can also cause abdominal discomfort, gas, and diarrhea, and block the gastrointestinal (GI) tract if you add too much fiber too fast. So, go slowly to give your GI tract time to adapt and drink lots of fluids to keep the fiber soft. Also, choose a variety of soluble and insoluble fiber-rich food sources: fruits, vegetables, whole grain breads and cereals, and legumes (beans and peas). Remember that brown rice and 100% whole wheat bread are better than white rice or w hite bread, and eat the skins of your fruits and vegetables whenever possible.

Yeah, I don't go crazy with anything.
Except smoking.
I'm going to start blaming it on smoking.
Quitting smoking is the only thing I haven't tried to cure this aside from pills and supplements.

Ginger is about the best thing there is for upset stomachs. You can buy tabs that are used for motion sickness, they actually work aswell.
