YA so just wanted to show this to you guys. It was one pint jar of colonized popcorn spawned to straw. Cased it with some sorta peat based potting soil (already treated with calcium carbonate) to which I added a bit of perlite. It probably doesn't work by far as well at 50/50+ casing layer, but that wasn't an option for me atm.
growing crooked, but thats cause the light is coming from that side, Ill turn it around tmrw to straighten them out

And theres still so many tiny ass pins popping up all over the place. Not sure if the really really tiny ones are gonna belong to the first or second flush or what?
God am I happy these things are finally growing!! THanks alot to everyone here who helped me out along the way!!
have a nice day

Good god, I knew these things grow quick but it's almost unreal to see the difference that 24 hrs makes (26, actually between the pics i posted before, and these) when you're used to waiting 2 months+ for those buds to fatten up :P

So since they were all leaning to one side I turned the casing around yesterday to let them strighten out. It worked to a certain extent I suppose!!

yeeee, so happy right now.

Seriously man, when I go out at night and come back a couple hours later it already seems like a big ass difference. The strain is PESA, which I recently figured out is the same thing as PES Amazonian or smth like that.
Only thing is...do they seem a bit lanky or is that jsut me? I mean if they grow more I suppose they will also get somehwat thicker stems, but I think even when they are done I'm gonna be thinking the stems seem kinda flimsy.

I saw a pic of some PESA that were massive long
This one is 12" long and a cap diameter of over 6" across Those are only baby PESA 1-2 days and they will be big suckers

That good to know about the size of the fruits! Although I doubt I'll be getting any foot long shrooms on a 3" substrate depth And ya its really true, the harder you look the more pins you see. What I'm wondering though, the tiny ass pins I'm seeing now are still gonna be way immature by the time the first "set" is ready. Will these make up the second flush or still be part of the first?
AngeloWish, you can go to any petshop and get straw bedding for like rabbits or whatnot. I didnt even need to go to a petshop, just the one-aisle pet section in my local grocery store. Its dirt dirt cheap as well.

Thats a common Q everything you see there now is the first flush.
If you see little pins below that are discolored/darker than pins should be, and they have stopped growing then these are aborts from the first flush. Ignore these they have not progressed. just be careful when picking you could remove or damage the mycelium & maybe pins from the next flush.
I pick them all when the veils are open. Even if they are small. I don't like over-mature shrooms, about 6-12 hrs after the veil breaks is when I pick. sometimes there are ones that are a little behind they usually get removed also. It's better to remove all shrooms and patch the casing at one time if possible.

Great job! Those mushies look healthy.
I did my first casing on straw. The problem was that it never gave a second flush. I hope you have better luck than I did.

Alright so today I woke up to a real suprise. I figured theyd grow a lot again but I hadn't expected the veils to break and spores to start dropping though. Problem is, as you'll see in the pic, theres some that are ready, but some which are really still just pins.
I wouldn't say they are aborts cause they dont have black caps, they are jsut still real small. Do I still pick off everything? Or should I leave them on to comprise the second flush, which if I believe Neurogenesis and all the other comments I've heard about straw on the forums, wont be very spectacular to begin with...
Also, there are these spots on the caps which wern't there yesterday...hoping it's not bacterial blotch or whatever. It looks slightly similar, but I'm personally hoping its due to like water drops falling on the caps. Or as you'll see in one pic, one of those spots appeared where there was a little chunk of soil attached to the cap.
here you seem them lookin all happy
less happy, hopefully due to a water dropping on it from the top
hopefully due to the moist chunk of soil?

Congrats on your casings. Not bad. Nice pinset and produced nice looking fruits.
How is your air exchange? This can be the problem with the thickness.
Is it me or does the casing itself look blue as hell? You beating it up with a high dose of h2o2 or something?
