storing dried mushies

I wonder why when i put dried mushrooms into sandwich bags stored in a shoebox after a day or two the mushrooms are soft and no longer cracker dry like they were when i had put them in.

but mushrooms i've been drying on a table close by are completely dried out and i could snap it in two halves.

Is there a way i could store the completely dried mushrooms so they wont become soft and squishy like what is happening now?

First dry them till they are cracker dry, and then I like to store in those brown paper bags (For lunches). I don't like to store my mushrooms in ziplock/plastic bags, because condensation often builds up, and can rot your shrooms (I lost ~500$ worth this way...).

plastic baggies and ziplock baggies speed the decaying process... use a paper bag.

yeah i lost right at a lb this way a couple years back....

took em to my buddies house.. it was a heat wave and the dude didnt have air conditioning, three days later they was nasty looking as hell, so i gave em away to another buddy.. people claimed they was still good, just a lil weaker... i wasnt brave enought to try em lol

i still use baggies, but as soon as cracker dry i double bag them and plop em in the freezer

is it okay if i just put them in the shoebox and store it that way without using the sandwich bags

Maybe... I wouldn't take the risk, as those brown paper bags are dirt cheap anyways...

But if you dry them in shoe boxes, just make sure theres not too many touching/crowding each other, just make sure they all get enough air to them or they may form into piles of mush...

Once CRACKER DRY, vacuum seal them. Or, heat a glass quart jar up slightly, in the microwave. Then, place them in the jar & screw the lid on TIGHT. As the jar cools, a mild vacuum will form.
