That Al Gore Movie

So I just saw An Inconvinent Truth yesterday, and I decided to buy some property 21 ft above sea level as an investment. So when in 50 years the sea level rises 20 feet I'll have some kick ass beach front property!
Seriously though, if that guys right the next 50 years will be really interesting. Anybody else see that movie and think we're all doomed?

I think Al Gore is a crack pot hippie. If he died a tragic death, I think I'd throw a big party and just spray a bunch of aerosol cans while getting drunk. Then I'd get all my friends to drive around in 60s muscle cars. Then when we got home, we'd leave them on in the driveway, just to waste gas and produce greenhouse gasses.

Of course he's right. People are in denial. Nobody wants a revolution that would make life harder.

Al Gore or not, those who get rich this century will be those who develop and market green technology. This can be anything from more efficient energy consuming devices, to new green farming techniques, to wind/solar energy sources, or even to as yet undeveloped/unknown energy sources. Green will be at the center of the next industrial revolution. Get on the train or be left behind. I believe deeply that mushrooms, herbs, and the protection of our forests, oceans and air will not only be 'cool', but will make many new billionaires. Green technology will not cost money, it will make money. RR

funny you say that, I'm working on setting up a hydro dam for a neighbor and a 4kw wind generator for myself as soon as I find my box of hard drives, the largest challenge I forsee is a regulated braking system

Actually, I built a really cool hydroelectric plant in the mountains last year. Total cost was under $200, and I had electricity for my 'wilderness camp' and didn't have to miss any Mariners games. It also let us run a small electric heater at night to stay warm.
All you need is some 2" PVC pipe and a car alternator. Put an impeller on the alternator, then route the pipe from an uphill stream. The falling water spins the alternator, which charges a 12V battery which in turn supplies an inverter to deliver 120V. Free electricity. RR

I've studied a couple small designs, one that was a squirrel cage blower and motor, wind turbines that were car alternators, with what I'm planning to do I should be about to produce 4kw at 240v on 200rpms with a single wind turbine assloads of R&D but it'll be well worth it in the long run
for the dam job I'm actualy looking at a purchased unit, because he wants enough to power his house and sell surplus to the utilities, his original plan was to buy a generator head on a 3pt hitch and run it to a water wheel, after preliminary testing we determined that he'd never have enough torque with his current to get the 2800rpms needed for 30kw and he'd have a huge ugly mess to deal with
it took a while to finaly sell him on this. http://www.waterturbine.com/

wind power is my only real option
