Beer leavening question.
    #575863 - 03/11/02 02:39 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Is there any use for beer leavening ? I mean, adding this to agar gel wouldn't create a nutritive medium ? Or even adding it to the substrate.
Help !? Thanks.

Peace,
MAIA

try using straight beer in this formula given to us by Rush Wayn
1 part beer
3 parts water
2% agar agar
also you can substitute cardboard or news paper for agar.
When doing this cut the cardboard into circles to fit the petri dishes

Yes the mycelium grows over the cardboard. Wayne suggests using "Grey Cardboard" and not corragated cardboard. I have no idea what grey card board is.

perhaps posterboard? you can get unbleached grey posterboard..
i played with corrugated and woodloving strains and they seemed to enjoy it.. ripped through it in fact after a short substrate-change induced delay.
