You can also make a "mega syringe" (sorta) by following the steps below: How to make your very own Poor-Man's Syringe, a.k.a. A Better "Syringe" for use with Honey-Water Innoculation If you have spare sterile syringes lying around, but want to inject more substantial amounts of Honey-Water into your substrate, OR If you're like me, and only purchased ONE spore syringe ( and then only used 1 or 2 cc's to innoculate a Honey-Water jar ) the question becomes "How in the hell am I gonna inject this Honey-Water into my substrate?" Well, try the following: Obtain the following items: 1. A great-big plastic turkey baster (if you don't know what this is, it looks like a huge eye-dropper, and if you don't know what an eye-dropper looks like, ask a friend) 2. An inflation needle for a sports ball (such as a soccer ball or basketball) 3. (optional) Silicone sealant 4. A pair of pliers (needle-nosed worked well for me) ------------------- Put the first two items together by one of the following methods: 1. Use a lighter or candle flame to gently heat the tapered nozzle of the turkey baster. 2. Cut off as much of the tapered plastic nozzle as needed to produce an opening that the inflation needle can *almost* fit into. 3. Heat the plastic nozzle again over the flame, then screw the threaded end of the inflation needle into the softened plastic. TIP: I heated the end of my needle-nosed pliers in the flame, then inserted it into the end of the plastic nozzle to ream-out the hole for easier insertion of the inflation needle. OR 1. Remove the bulb from the turkey baster (they usually pop off easily). 2. Drop the inflation needle (point first) into the large end of the turkey baster. 3. Use silicone sealant to "glue" the needle firmly in place. Allow to dry. 4. Re-attach the bulb to the turkey baster. OR be creative ------------------ TO USE: Wrap the whole thing in foil and boil/pressure cook. Let cool. Suck up whatever amount of Honey-Water mycelial solution you feel is adequate, insert needle thru hole in jar lid / Saran Wrap / foil / oven bag / etc. and squeeze the bulb to innoculate your substrate! With the one I made, I was able to suck up over 1.25 CUPS into my baster! Note: Try to use only ONE squirt of the turkey baster bulb to avoid sucking in potentially-contaminated air thru your Honey-Water! This is not always easy, so I used Captain's Oven Hood technique, doing my innoculation on a warm oven rack. That way, the air sucked in thru the Honey-Water was lower in contaminants.

At my local hobby store they have much larger syringes used to measure and dispense the fuel into model aircraft/boats. They come with tubing instead of a needle though, but you can take a standard needle and attach it with no problem. I find it good for measuring and dispensing liquids. I also found a marinade injector at a housewares store, it has a large gauge blunt (a little safer to work with) injector needle. Additional needles can be ordered via mail in three different gauges. Very handy for injecting mycellium water because the chunks can clog normal sized needles...
