incubating jars directly in water?

instead of using a double tuperware setup with aquarium thermometer, cant I just put the jars directly in the water to colonize? what is wrong with doing it this way?

bump your incubator watch the jars fall and make a mess

its not really the cleanest way to do things either. all sorts of crap can start growing in your water. normally you put a splash of bleach in the water to prevent that when using two tubs, but you wouldnt want to risk getting bleach water into any of your jars either.

just spend the extra 7 bucks and get another tub for them to float in, or don't bother at all and keep them at room temperature.
