although u will never hear of somebody dying as a result of a mush or lsd overdose, i frquently hear about people haveing seizures, convulsions, and the like. that cant be too safe i wouldnt think.
wondering if any of you smarter people out there knew why that happens, if they are so safe.

Psychedelics are dangerous. Anyone who says they aren't is in denial. But then again, they are comparitively safe, if you compare them to other substances.
If you accept there is a risk, you can try to assess it. If you have faith in your assessment of the risks and confidence in your abilities and odds, you might choose to engage in this activity.

physically safe...there is some danger mentally no doubt about it...it can cause ptsd(probably the most common damage) which can totally fuck up how u feel(anxiety disorders are incredibly painful)...other then that I do believe it can surface pre-existing dormant disorders...but I also believe if u've had a lot of experience and have become truely confident of returning to baseline that the risks are pretty low
EDIT: its ironic that psychedelics can cause AND treat ptsd...it just goes to show u how important set and setting is and also the possiblities that psychedelics such as lsd, psilocybin and mdma can open up...I do however also believe that just because something is labelled a psychedelic does not make it useful...it depends on the person for one thing since everyone reacts different and also specific drugs are known for causing more bad then good(ketamine, dxm and pcp come to mind) but this also has to do with the possiblity for addiction with these "psychedelics"...an addiction to anything is gonna cause some type of emotional damage(tho not nessesarily permanent either)

I think that they are relatively safe. However, someone with epilepsy or other pre-existing social/mental problems should shy away from psychedelics. I witnessed a guy have a seizure while tripping and that is not to be taken lightly. I dont even think that he knew he was epileptic until after this happened. In the long run, i think that tripping shouldn't be a frequent thing. Some people don't realize that putting a chemical into their body to make them experience something is dangerous. I only trip 1 to 2 times a year anyways... usually summer when the shrooms are up. I think an experienced tripper will have already realized the dangers... PEACE

i dont have any longterm medical problems either

i'm curious, are they having seizures, or are they just sort of manifesting the trip physically?
in meditation there are kriyas, random involuntary movements..... and it's entirely possible that people who trip and then do really weird physical things, even convulse, may simply be working through energetic blockages... i.e. no HARM is being done to their brain or body.
i'm not sure exactly what seizures are though, are they harmful or do they just happen and that's that?
I mean like I have convulsed from feedback loops of progessive attention on pot, it's the same as myoclonic jerks while falling asleep except vivid..... in fact it's a lot like dozing off to sleep, it's physically about similar....
and i dunno it might look like i'm seizing to someone else... maybe I am? But then don't we seize every time we are lying in bed, then we are walking down the side-walk, trip over the curb, and jolt awake while convulsing?
i dunno. my experience is with like focusing on the chakras too much and JAMMM I can't stop focusing on them and I know what's about to happen and I twitch "alert" again.
psychedelics are much more dangerous than forum consensus and much less dangerous than public consensus.

Om Namah Shivaya, I tell you What!

Leery, the whole convulsions thing sounds like your on to something. There are times when i'm falling asleep and i'm dreaming of something but the dream is physical which makes me react and give a jolt. Sort of like a snap back to reality. This could be similarly related to psychedelic use?

i read erowid trip reports where, durring these seizures, people slips turned blue because they quit breathing. i don't tink that happens when falling asleep.

seizures are caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain...in can be caused by shrooms even if you don't have epilepsy...when your tripping you brain can basically just overload and bring on a seizure...although rare it can happen... for the most part seizures aren't harmful...people usually get hurt by falling, banging their head, or flailing limbs striking or being cut by something...but if you start seizing after taking shrooms...you probably shouldnt do it again

actually further reading has proved that those were LSD reports in which seizures were accompanied by the cessation of breathing. mushrooms seemed to cause generally less seizures then LSD. peace

Psychedelics are extremely unsafe, and should only be used by anyone who wants to.
-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”
