To sustain other life.
That's about as pointless as anything can get.
If one species decided to just give up, who would pick up the slack for them?

Please, there is no "point". Meaning and interpretation exist within a conscious mind that creates it. Meaning is not inherent.

If one species gave up it would go extinct in a hurry. Other life would swallow it up and consume it.
There is no "point" to life. No form of life exists primarily to provide support to any other form of life. Life is always self-serving, and will always take advantage of weakness.
If we humans couldn't think, we wouldn't be worried about the "point" of our lives

The point of life itself (as a whole) is to exist. Its the only one thing that every species strives for.
The point of life, as a human, is objective but my take is this; We are just cogs in the big machine of life. Actually largely insignificant to lifes goal thus we may as well make the best of it and try to be as content as possible.

ok

why did you add that?
Meaning is not inherent. Does that mean it has no meaning?

Your 'point' to life is pointless because you made it so.
Quote:

Is your point to live is to live for another being? Is it immoral to achieve goals for yourself, but good to live for others? Should you serve others based on their impotence and inability? Are you a serf to those who are unwilling to provide, and a ruler to those who are able?
Check what you consider your vices to find them to be the highest virtues you can value.
From a biological point of view, the meaning of life is to procreate. Once you create more of you, mission successful. From a philosophical it is to know thyself.

Amen! For most life on earth, it's to simply survive, procreate and simply be. For us humans, it's not so simple.

Deteriorata (National Lampoon)
(You are a fluke of the universe. You have no right to be here. Deteriorata, Deteriorata)
Go placidly amidst the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof. Avoid quiet and passive persons, unless you are in need of sleep. Rotate your tires. Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself; and heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys. Know what to kiss - and when. Consider that two wrongs never make a right, but that three do. Wherever possible, put people on hold. Be comforted, that in the face of all irridity and disillusionment, and despite the changing fortunes of time, there is always a big future in computer maintenance.
(You are a fluke of the universe. You have no right to be here. Whether you can hear it or not, The universe is laughing behind your back.)
Remember the Pueblo. Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle, and mutilate. Know yourself. If you need help, call the FBI. Exercise caution in your daily affairs, especially with those persons closest to you... That lemon on your left, for instance. Be assured that a walk through the seas of most souls would scarcely get your feet wet. Fall not in love, therefore, it will stick to your face. Gracefully surrender the things of youth: the birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan - and let not the sands of time get in your lunch. Hire people with hooks. For a good time, call 606-4311, ask for Ken. Take heart in the deepening gloom that your dog is finally getting enough cheese. And reflect that whatever misfortune may be your lot, it could only be worse in Milwaukee.
(You are a fluke of the universe. You have no right to be here. Whether you can hear it or not, The universe is laughing behind your back.)
Therefore, make peace with your god, whatever you perceive him to be: hairy thunderer or cosmic muffin. With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal, the world continues to deteriorate. GIVE UP!
(You are a fluke of the universe. You have no right to be here. Whether you can hear it or not, The universe is laughing behind your back.)

Seriously, you can see the point of human existence just by looking around you. It is to see just how ridiculous we can get.
Humans spend tens of thousands of dollars and years on invitro fertilization trying to have a child, while other humans abort them and leave them in garbage dumpsters.
Millions of humans throw away millions of tons of food a year while other millions starve to death.
Humans spend billions of dollars and time researching and treating cancer while other humans are busy putting cancer causing carcinogens into our foods, water and air.
Life speaks its point for itself and the point appears be, to see just how ridiculous human intelligence can become.
I rest my case with this-

I'd rather seize an understanding of reality as it can directly be perceived in actively participate in reality in order to carry reality to new heights, to most effectively conduct reality and its affairs, and to maintain the increased levels of awareness and observation. Its the necessary balance that is essential for the further devleopment and advancement of oneself and one's environment.
