I've got to re-arrange the garden in a big way and don't want to loose my poppies which haven't flowered yet. Do they take well to transplanting???

NO! Not at all. Unless you have them in peat pots or something similar they probably won't survive a transplant.

...NO. Honestly, I have no intention to be rude, seriously, but is this not one of those things that is basic knowledge to anyone planting poppies? Like I said, I know it comes off as rude, but I don't want to be insulting. Just saying, isn't this common knowledge?

Well..obviously it's not common knowledge, not to mention you have asked the same question before

I've got no option other than to transplant them or chop them down
If I chop them down now (they are near flowering stage) will there be sufficient opium in them for pod putty or tea???

I have had no problem transplanting 2 month old seedlings from planting flats to outside. But with the root system they have I can understand the issues with transplanting larger specimens.

Why do you have to chop them down ?
If their near flowering you don't stand much of a chance moving them. Ive never had any success moving them full stop.
In theory though if you could get a spade in deep enough and lift them with a block of mud still attached, without disturbing the roots AT ALL. Then plant them you might stand a chance.

I have landscapers in on Monday to totally reshape the garden. The gardens too labour intensive as it is, it's got to be done

Harsh man, looks like you might lose your poppies.
You can try carefully to move them but i don't think you stand much of a chance. Hope that wasn't all your seeds. Saying that in this country they grow everywhere, seeds are easy enough to find. Just means you'll have to wait till next year.
Hope your garden turns out nice anyway,,,

If they're small, it can be done if you get a large clump of dirt around the roots. If they're very big at all or if you don't get much soil then it won't end up so well.

I transplanted over 35 three inch tall poppy plants. 30 of them made it to one foot tall( lost five to flood.) 20 or so of them made it to flower( lost the others to rain spell and root rot)
YeS! Transplanting poppies can be done. But you gotta take a lot of dirt with them, and transplant in clumps. Never try to take a single poppy out of a clump and transplant it. Impossible.
The roots are hair thin. After transplant( don't do it once the plants are past 6" or so) water carefully, and never let the soil dry out around the roots you brought to a new location. Make sure the new locations soil is healthier than the last.

yeah transplant in clumps.... the roots come out of the dirt so easily... the clump method pretty much ensures that at least a few plants will survive...
I dont know, but I think transplanting also reduces overall growth of the plant, depending on when you transplant it...
