Amusing/Slightly Disturbing ID request - from New Zealand

Habitat: Growing out of the wall/carpet interface in the lounge of my cold and damp student flat. Rent here is $174 US per week for 5 of us haha. Its actually not that bad, I just thought this was amusing. There are two large obvious patches on the floor on either side of the wall with dried mushroom remnants, obviously the extent of the mycelial network - perhaps 1ft on both sides.
Gills: I didnt think to look - It was rather off-putting while we were moving our stuff in.
Stem: I dont believe these have a "stem".
Cap: An ugly subtle pink, appears more peach in the photo.
Spore print color: Didnt get to that.
Bruising: No color change was observed.
Location: Christchurch New Zealand, scummy student flat. Found towards the middle/later half of summer.
Haha I would seriously laugh if these were edible - I would definately eat them for the high "disturbence factor". As a guess are these some sort of "ear fungus".

They look pretty tripped out. Lol. Sorry, cant help you with the ID but damn man, how moist/humid must your flat be to make it possible for mushrooms to grow?

Haha yeah - I've had some very cold humid nites down here in Chch. Last year I got "Atypical Pneumonia" as a result , but that worked out becuase I got extra marks in my exams in consideration.
On some nights it got down to 3C (37.4F) inside - we used to wear ski jackets and gloves constantly.
And believe me its F#$ken gross to find your clothes are growing mould on them just because they are sitting on the floor. Last year my windowsills were completly covered with fuzz the whole way around. This flat I'm in now (with the above mushrooms) is actually "much "better believe it or not.

Its not really a problem - I'd rather put up with it than fork out $600 for a dehidifier (not gonna happen ), which churns through the power too. In my current room - the humiditys about 72% I might put the gague in my flatmates room - she aways has high humitiy. This house isnt to bad at all - I'm not concerned about it.

Peziza Domiciliana cup fungus. Not edible.
Usually grows in buildings with damp plaster or rotten wood.

srgtm1a has it.
They shouldn't be eaten. Too many of their close relatives produce methylhydrazine (a nasty poison) to risk eating them. Also, many of their close relatives have been shown to be pretty carcinogenic if eaten.
Happy mushrooming!

hey Feelers, mold is BAD. The sort of environment of atleast your last crib is detrimental to your health. I am not joking. I worked with a chick who had a mold issue in her apartment and she acquired asthma and had to quit smoking cigarettes in her early-mid 20's.
On a more cheery note- I am SOOO jealous!!! I want mushrooms rotting and degrading the wood and carpet in my house! No joke, I'd be damn stoked...
Angryshroom, That was the funniest thing I have read on the board! I mean, that's funnier and less disgusting than some of the trolled up threads that have been showing up Oh man, I would like to quote some words and pics from that bulletin, but there are simply too many worth seeing yourself!
Everyone!! Check out that last link in Angry's post! ROFL

that seems to happen an awful lot down here. well in student flats anyway. After a few weeks try checking behind your fridge and washing machine and all through the laundry. someone i knew said she had magic mushrooms growing behind her fridge that she didnt even put there. but ... you know.
if you are living in the central city throw a pair of trousers onto the lawn and leave them out there permanently. in a few months check back and look underneath them and you may just find a magic mushroom growing.
happened to me a few years back. although i have no idea how a pair of my trousers got to be abandoned on the lawn in the first place

When I was tripping one time the mould growing on the roof in the bathroom looked real cool.
My last house had terrible terrible mould on the roof and walls and the bathroom(much worse than my current house). Six people with one shower - and there was no ventilation in there for the steam to get out.
Rats went and ate through peoples clothes too - we had one real cheeky one we named Big George. One night we blocked the hole he ate in the wall to block his escape, and he met his end with a large 2 by 4.

Update on scum flat indoor mushroom. [Re: shroomerNZ]

Haha I thought I'd revive this old thread - while I was away on holiday the water that was overflowing from the hot water tank (and making a swamp out in the backyard) had the pipe burst in the roof. Sometimes the water used to come out so fast that it shot out horizontally, instead of just dribbling down the outside wall. I'd say a good -1 litre+ every minute.
It wasnt fixed for three weeks. Which equates to about 30 tons of water that had to be dissapated through the walls, and ironically around the area that the mushrooms were when we moved in (at the start of the thread), making them quite happy obviously. The person who was still in the flat moved out because it made everything go totally mouldy. There's all types of colours, one quite bizzare patch of a quite bright yellow. Fucken gross, but I like it, hahaha.
It looks like the the walls in Alien or something.

This one had a nice structure to it I thought.
And check out this little seedling/mushroom combo.

Thats horrific, if I lived there, I'd sleep outside. Do you ever have chicks over? If I were you guys, I'd strip all that nasty carpet, get some nice stain for the concrete floors, assuming they are concrete ond not bare earth. Throw down some area rugs, Give the place a more modern look, and a clean feel. guess that wont help all the moisture in the walls. I'm glad I dont have that problem, my place was built in 2000 and is holding up very nicely, and I liveo n the third floor which keeps moisture and pests to a minimum.

Oh man. Dude doesn't New Zealand have any health/sanitation laws against this sort of thing?? I know here in Canada if one moved in to a student flat especially and found mushrooms and mould growing all over the place, the school administrators/landlords would be facing some heafty fines on top of the cost of renovations.
