Senate rejects U.S. troop pullout in Iraq 93-6 !

WASHINGTON - The Senate rejected a call for the withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from Iraq by year's end, a proposal by Sen. John Kerry, the Massachusetts Democrat and war critic.
And yet it still lost 93 - 6? Don't these senators know that Kerry served in Vietnam?

I love how when something the Republicans support fails, its a clear sign that the Congress is no longer doing the will of the people and should probably be abolished.
However, when something works out for them, Congress is suddenly the supreme voice of the plebes, and should be honored for its courageous stance.
Please.

since when does congress mirror the thoughts and sentiments of the general public?
anways, the war is unpopular but that does not mean that everyone wants to completely pull out in a mere 6 months. the Iraqi government cannot even stand on its own feet and, as far as I can tell, they are not even close. Look at the government in Afghanistan - what a joke.

Looks like there's only going to be americans left in Iraq soon.
British, Australian and Japanese troops will transfer security responsibilities in southern Iraq to Iraqi authorities next week, a news report in Japan said.
They will then withdraw from the area soon after,
Japan's pullout could be complete as early as July, according to the report.

Why? Did all of the Iraq's leave?

So they fell for the same lies spouted by the Bush admin as everybody else and went into Iraq. Now that things are totally screwed up, rather than sticking around and suffering while trying to fix the mess they helped create, they are going to dump the problem on the Iraq people, tuck tail, and run. No wonder the world is so @#$#@ed up....

#1 premise not supported by evidence "the world is so @#$#@ed up."
It has never been better.
#2 premise not supported by evidence "lies spouted by the Bush admin"
This has been hammered into oblivion in numerous threads
#3 premise not in evidence "things are totally screwed up"
Not an apt description of conditions in Iraq. Unless you are a child and expect they will suddenly be as good as the rest of the world. Oh wait, the rest of the world is "@#$#@ed up" too. In that case, I case Iraq is average "@#$#@ed up."
Totally screwed up? You might want to look to Africa. A relentless disaster. Somebody please post and tell me how the CIA started AIDS. I need a good chuckle.
#4 premise not in evidence "the mess they helped create"
I assume you mean "the mess they helped create by not removing this asshole in '91." What? You didn't? My bad.

The Generals (as opposed to politicians (e.g. GWBush, congress)) should be the only ones deciding when the US should pull out of Iraq.

Saying Iraq is totally screwed up is not "apt"? Are you joking? A country so dangerous that the most powerful man in the world can only risk giving the Prime minister 5 minutes notice of his arrival?
Totally screwed up? You might want to look to Africa. A relentless disaster.
Africa is a continent. Many countries in Africa are a lot safer than Iraq.

Iraq is probably the most insecure, turbulant region on the planet right now.

I'm sorry, but that premise is not supported by evidence.

Then please tell me what is the most insecure, turbulant country in the world as supported by evidence, because I don't know. Right now, with chaotic events in Iraq making the international news on an almost daily basis, it seems to me that Iraq is the most insecure.
How's that?

I just recently heard that it was Jamaica. I don't know if it's true or not or even how you would measure such a thing but I did hear that Jamaica was the most dangerous. Which seems quite weird.

That does seem odd. I've always associated Haiti with Carribean insecurity.

They're definately unstable, but I can't see them being more insecure than Iraq. Afghanistan is also up there, but I would say Afghanistan is on par with Somalia and Gaza. Iraq takes the cake in my opinion.
