Yelling
    #5753498 - 06/15/06 12:54 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Recently I have realized how uncomfortable hearing 'yelling in anger' makes me. I just hate it. It's the hallmark of conflict. Anytime I hear someone yell in anger, at anything or anyone, it really upsets me. It makes me want to yell at them to stop yelling. Whenever my husband yells at the dogs, I get pissed. There's just no need to yell at the top of your lungs at an animal, or person, for that matter. I mean, there are ways to communicate without resorting to an angry-sounding yell. So much negative energy is carried along with that sound.

Anyway, it bothers me.

Aw, there is no need to yell at doggies. They get sad when they know you are upset with them.

I know, I just hate yelling!  :frown:  Growing up, I heard A LOT of it.  It makes me feel physically violent to hear someone yelling in anger nowadays, like my body shifts into this "flight or fight" mode.

I'll raise my voice sometimes when I get angry, but I don't yell. I think its normal to raise your voice a little when you get mad, but yelling isn't neccessary.

I hate yelling also. I raise my voice at my little dog but not yell and I give him a weak spanking. He still shits all over the floor. So for a week I tried being mean and he still shits on the floor. So now I just let him shit on the floor.

I never got mad though. Maybe thats why he still does it, you have to actually be mad for the dog to know.

How do you stop a dog from shitting on the floor. I let them out all the time. He sometimes goes out and comes in and shits on the floor.

Anyway I hate yelling my dad used to yell and hit me a lot, but then I got good genes for the first time in my family history and am calm and peaceful.

Edit: Ok I just had Daisi voo have I ever posted this exact same thing befor?

How old is your dog? It should stop shitting between 6-11 months IMO. After that, I would legitametely be pissed! I normally look at my dog, and say in a mean/dissapointed voice "what did you do" and point at it, and then I crate the dog for 10-15 minutes.

yea but dogs react to the loudness. Thats how they know something is bad. So its good to yell, because later you wont have to deal with crap. such as dogs shitting in my room!

sorry, but. You say that you don't like it when someones is yelling at people or animals.

How about the TV? Remote control? Computer mouse? Flashlight?

Do you mean 'anything' as everything that exists in this world?

Yeah, that's what I'm saying, there are better ways to communicate. The most I do with my puppy (5 months) is clap my hands.

Oh, you shouldn't punish or yell at your dog for shitting on the floor. Once it happens, it's over with, and yelling at them is just confusing. Just put the dog out of sight, clean it up, and watch them better next time. Dogs give signs like restlessness, sniffing around, whining and pawing if they need to go potty. An unpotty-trained dog needs constant supervision and they need to be praised LOTS whenever they do good and potty outside or in the proper spot.

Potty training isn't hard, you just have to supervise and praise at the right times. And be consistant about it too...my dogs never have accidents inside.

i hate yelling.

it doesnt help. it just escalates the situation .

yelling at me usually ends up with me screaming " I CAN FUCKING HEAR YOU DICKWAD YOU DONT FUCKING NEED TO YELL". that usually shuts them up.

Mine was a very large dobie, on the few occasions he pooped in the floor he knew
right away he was in trouble, he's go to the bathroom and grab clothing and towels
to cover it up so he wouldnt get into trouble, all I had to do was point and
he's go lay down in his corner... of course cleaning it up was a serious chore
I'd have to break out the shovel to do it. them was some big turds

I agree, it sucks hearing that shit.. I have got a lot of it in the past too.

Did my share of yelling though, so I shouldn't be one to talk.

I usually can't control yelling when I get really mad. I just lose control and can't help it... but I also hit and break things (not people), but I have hurt myself a lot when in rage.

i used to yell alot. my parents used to yell alot. i still yell sometimes when me and my brother get into it, but its something im trying to work out of my daily routines. im getting better with it, but when i get angry its just instinct (for lack of a better word) for me to yell. it never helps, it always just pisses off both parties that much more, and i always feel like a dick head afterwards. there really is no reason to yell in anger.

Same here, but when it does happen, it's scary.

I've been so mad that I've punched stupid stuff, whatever was there. Broke my hand doing it on concrete before.
It's like a reaction and I just don't think about what I'm doing... no way to control it either.

I ripped a chunk of hair out once when angry, it had blood on the end of it too, pretty scary. It's long healed by now of course..

I don't get angry at all these days really. I'm worried that one day all the anger that i have bottled up will explode sometime.

people that have known me for some time have learned, usualy through observation
that I;m very even with my temperment, very few have seen me lose it and it's
never a pretty sight, strangely I do avoid hitting anythng when I'm angry, in
fact when I do hit, it's usualy a person but it's always in defense, never anger
last time was about 18 years ago, and everyone in the pool room circuit knew
about it within an hour, it was a big deterant for people that considered doing
stupid stuff

I never was one to contain my anger for long, once it's done, it's over with
no need to stew in it because it just makes me feel shitty

No, it makes me want to yell in fear.

Does that make more sense?

Thought so.  It's an emotional reaction.  I attribute hearing yelling to feeling fear, just like in childhood.  Except I don't yell.

Yes, and many if not MOST people do. This can be more than an emtional reaction. You do realize this is also a choice? You CAN choose differently.

Emotions = information

Reaction = choice

You can choose not to be afraid of yelling now... but yelling may always evoke emotions in you.

That is progress.
