I was wondering if it would be worth the effort to grow some amanita muscaria or gymnopilus spectabilis???? they grow in different environments but would they grow using pf tek with brown rice flower and vermiculite or would i have to go with the bird seed since gymnopilus species of this sort grows on wood or decade wood /wood chips

So its' just that simple, huh? So, no it wouldn't be worth the effort, but just because its not worth the effort doesn't mean there's not a way and if there isn't one thought up already then somebody should get on it. Anything can be done if someone puts their mind to it. I'd be very interested to see if anybody actually has a known way, but I do not think they will seeing as such a quick no from a mod. My question is has anybody here tried to grow amanitas? I'm moving to Oregon this fall to goto school studying mycology and if there isn't a method by then, i will make it my duty to create one. The world is full of possibilities, anyone on this board should know that, such a definite answer as no means nothing. Just because they can't be grown on PF cakes or birdseed doesn't mean they won't grow. It may be extremely complicated and far-fetched but hardly impossible. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. AND yes I've read the FAQs on amanitas and where you got your information for a no, but still there has got to be a way to simulate the idea of a tree. Any possible method I'm sure would require a nice lab with access to many things that hard to get for your average person but still ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
EDIT: No Offense is meant to you roadkill, I understand why you said no. Just if I were to ask the question an answer like that would of crushed my dreams.

yeah anything is possible. i could fly myself to the moon in an innertube powered by whipped cream.
many things that may be possible aren't practical, or worthwhile. this probably being one of them. i think if you'll look into the relationship that's formed between the mushroom and the tree a little closer, you'll see where it gets pretty tricky to ever be able to simulate such a symbiotic system without the live tree. if you wanna spend the time, effort, money, and other resources to figure it out though, all the power to you

They have a symbiotic relationship with not only the root system, but also micro organisms that also inhabit this environment. (IIRC) Recreation of this micro-ecosystem would be very labor intensive.

^^ exactly
its not just about making a magic mix of nutrients a tree provides
you need to provide an entire fixed environment with a large array of things.
another example. the truffle. how expensive are these? very... yet they still haven't figured out how to cultivate them in a lab... and i'd say with the price they fetch there's a hell of a lot of motivation to do so. instead, they farm trees, and grow them in a outdoor (albiet controlled) environment... because that's what makes sense.
