I just recently started thinking about this show and the messages it was trying to send us as kids. (us that are my age).
Up, work, home, TV, bed. Up, work, home, TV, bed. as Flecko said.
Rocko's boss is a huge jerk...... making his work trying and difficult when it should be peaceful.
Conglom-O- something or other is an evil and almost omnipotent company that Mr Bighead works for, and has problems with as well.
R-E-C-Y-C-L-E RECYCLE! C-O-N-S-E-R-V-E CONSERVE! don't you .... well I know the whole song but I won't type it out.... well most of it.
Rocko's Modern life was subly subversive toward the corporate and materialistic world.
-------------------- I am the MacDaddy of Heimlich County, I play it Straight Up Yo! ....I embrace my desire to feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow, to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain, to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human...... Om Namah Shivaya, I tell you What!

Do you happen to remember that episode where Rocko gets a credit card and goes to the mall with Heffer to buy Spunky a new dog bowl? Well before long Rocko is pressured into buying all sorts of shit, putting it on credit because he doesn't have the money upfront. Eventually his card melts . He gets home with all of his new shit but before long it all gets repossessed. However he soon gets over it and is just happy to have a dog that enjoys his company, or something. I forget the exact ending but I know it involves him learning to be happy without being a total consumer whore.

ahhh yes.
also older cartoons seemed trippier to me........ like ren and stimpy and rocko had trippy elements to them where the cartoon characters reality intermingles with his mental world, such as rocko being haunted by the credit card and it meshing into the plot immediately in a somewhat psychedelic manner (did that happen?) something to do with him wanting to cut it but it not letting him cut it.....

The Angry Beavers certainly had a personality to it.
 Peace.

rockos modern life has a lot of inuendos, some are more obvious than others. I realize this now and back then I was too young to realize.
it definitely is a trippy cartoon.
