I was wondering if you can and is it better to crumble the cake up when using the pf tek? Or just leave it whole to fruit? This is my first grow and I'm just wondering what is the best method.

You can definitely crumble, place in a tray, and cover with a casing layer (even a cover of plain verm will work as a starter casing.) It will take a few days longer in the long run to get to harvest, but you will most likely get a little more yield in the end.
It depends on your comfort level, its not hard to do but it is a few extra steps that you could potentially screw up, so many folks like to leave them be as cakes the first time around until they get a feel for things.

I sterilized my vermiculite on a tray with tinfoil over it at 350 for 15 minutes and then transfer it to a sterile jar and fill it up with H2O2 solution, I use half a cap for every pint (500ml) let it soak for 24 hours and then drain it and case
You dont need to do all that but it helps.
You could just oven sterilize your verm add it and mist the living shit out of it with a H2O2 solution, wichever way you prefer.
