Yeah, I know that this is in the Mushroom Hunting forum. I just wonder how many mushroom hunters out there carry and use a hiking stick or something similar. I'm working on my stick now and was hoping to get ideas, pictures of others. A walking stick can really be multipurpose and can make a hike through the woods safer. Post a picture if you have one. Mine is about 38" long, more like a cane really. I put a copper ring at the end to prevent fraying. Gorilla glue is still drying.
 And the top:

Someone gave me a fancy walking stick as a gift once. It has a compass on the top tip of it, and it's polished/finished or whatever.
I use this ghetto stick instead. A broken off rake handle or something.
I can beat and stab stuff, I can stick it in the ground, and I don't care what happens to it.

It's good for blazing trails in the really swampy areas that I have to pass through like this..

Most have such thick undergrowth that it's very hard to get through at all.

Ugh! I hate carrying things while walking!! I don't even like carrying the mushrooms I find- in hand or in bag! I wish they would just levitate in front of me as I walk.... Okay, that might draw some unecessary attention....

You could of course eat them as you walk. Saves you the trouble of carrying them, and of being caught with them in hand at a later time :P

I usually just carry only a water bottle with me anyways and stuff it in my back pocket.
I walk miles when i go out in the woods.
Usually I only bring the stick when I know I'll have to blaze a trail somewhere.

I wish I would of had something with me a few days ago when I ran across a sick squirrel. It looked like it was buried for a week and someone dug it it.It didn't appear to be afraid of me at all and in fact, made a lunge towards me. I feel bad now that I didn't kill it.

Getting some of the thick undergrowth out of the way and creating a path, just enough so one can pass through.

Then again.... It's not like I have any underbrush or woodland areas to hunt I mean, I live in North county SD, my hunting grounds are suburbs.
My folks just bought a new place up in San Fran- Mill Valley, it's right next to muir woods. Now THAT will be good hunting! Too bad I won't be living with them.

That would definitely be prime hunting for the bay area. At least the surrounding burbs. Just schedule all of your visits for late fall / late winter.
