> Mushroom mycelium secretions do not equate to human urine in any way, shape or form.
I wasn't trying to claim that they are chemically similar because I haven't done much research on the subject. They both seem to me to be metabolic waste products, which makes them similar IMO.
> That is disinformation and it makes the hair on my neck stand on end when I see it constantly repeated.
Then prove us wrong. Your opinions and speculations aren't any better than ours. If you have better reasoning or research than you've presented thus far I would be happy to revise my opinion. You seem to have a habit of accusing people of spreading disinformation whenever they don't agree with your opinion. If any of this actually was proven fact it would only be mistaken information, not disinformation. Disinformation implies intentional deception and I somewhat resent that.
What makes my hair stand on end is something I saw in another thread. Someone was responding to a question about myc piss and told the poster that it was in fact good for the myc and that some people are going to try bottling it and spraying it on their casing. Besides the fact that it would be pretty difficult to capture any volume of myc piss it's bad advice. It's not good for the myc IMO and usually forms in adverse conditions. It's acidic and toxic and IMO it amounts to spraying an organism with it's own piss.
> The secretions, which contain acetone and other volatile compounds...
Have you actually analyzed myc piss and found VOCs in it? I have no doubt that there might be, but it seems to me that you are just extrapolating and speculating on this. In any case it does nothing to further your position. VOCs are usually toxic and would be found in wasteproduct secretions.
> Please stop using urine as an analogy for the antibiotic secretions of our precious fungi.
I don't find penicillin production to be particularly analogous to myc piss. Penicillin, although I don't know the exact details, is I believe produced extracellularly throughout the mycelium fairly uniformly and is NOT produced occasionally in small globules scattered infrequently across the myc surface.
It seems that you are claiming that these are antibiotic secretions. That is not something that is proper to just claim based on opinion. You need to do some research before you start presenting an unfounded opinion as fact. You'll have to excuse me if I missed your post describing your finding of antibiotic activity in myc piss.
I'll outline why I think it's simply a metabolic wasteproduct analogous to piss. For one this is what the prevailing wisdom is on it. If you want to change the prevailing opinion on a subject you can't just start making contrary claims and acting like people are spreading disinformation by repeating the consensus opinion. Myc piss is formed in older myc, usually when it's left in jars too long. It also forms more readily at incubation temps.. It forms in sterile environments, so it's not a response to bacteria or anything other than normal incubation conditions. I've tested the pH before and found it to be quite acidic. I don't recall the exact pH, but I believe it was around 3-4. To me the simplest explanation is that it's just metabolic wasteproducts of normal respiration, aka "myc piss".
Now I know you have a lot of experience, probably a fair bit more than me, but that's no excuse to treat people with disrespect and call their opinions crap because they don't agree with you, especially since this is the first I've ever even hear of someone claiming that myc piss is "the antibiotic secretions of our precious fungi."
