Outdoor question

I was wondering. I know you don't have to worry about contamination when growing outdoors. I have some good outdoor patches going right now. What i want to know is can you grow outdoors in a container without worrying about contamination?
Say if i were to spawn some poo\straw in a flower pot, rubber maid, feeding trough, or any other enclosed container outside would contamination still not pose a threat or would that change the rules of the game.
I'm wanting to do a grow raised off the ground, so bugs and slugs and what not would never be an issue and so when the grow is done i could have easily accessible spawn to start another outdoor grow without having to dig the grow up.
Thanks in advance.

I used to grow outdoors in 124 quart tubs. Just put field capacity un pasteurized horse manure in the tub, about 4 inches. And spawn it with 7 quarts of spawn. I put them in very shady places with no direct sunlight at all at any time of the day. You have to set up a rain shield or it will become flooded. I had great success mushrooms outside are very healthy.

OK what if you put many many drain holes in the bottom of your container still need a rain shield id imagine?
And would you need to case it once colonized since humidity isn't always that high outside?

Also could you go as much as 1/20 spawn ration for outside since contamination isn't a problem (i know it would take alot longer)

You still need a rain sheild. It can ran for hours at a time and even with drain holes the mycelium floods, dies, and bacteria takes over, even though its outside it in a bin so it partially inside.
I wouldnt use less that 1-4 ratio spawn to sub.

Why is that? RR told me it would make great spawn for an outdoor patch.
The myc. is still very healthy. Just wondering.

Hell, I just spawned an outdoor patch with 10 month old millet jars that were forgot about in a garage. ome of them had contamed 10 months ago, but looked to have cleaned themselves up. Anyway spawned them to worm castings and used perlite to keep it airated and it is flushing great.
Not that i don't belive you, you have way more experience than i do, just thought id share. Thanks for the help btw.

It will work fine and you'll get mushrooms but the casing is old worn out flushed out mycelium. Its not near as good as brand new grain spawn that has never flushed.

If you get it to colonize though, wouldn't the new myc that takes over the sub be alot healthier and unflushed myc? even if the spawn is a little old the new myc would be stronger than the spawn used wouldn't it?
Just trying to expand my knowledge on this great hobby.

It will have a new source for nutrients but the myeclium will still be worn out.
Try spawning a tub with new grain spawn, and the other with the casing and see wich one works best.
