None of my Walmarts have jars except the Super Walmart and it's a seasonal thing there. Sometimes I have luck with them at the grocery store. As for birdseed, I've never been to any Walmart that didn't have some kind of WBS.

All the walmarts around here have canning jars. The problem is..none of them are in the same places. Some with food supplies..some with home stuff...some in medical/personal..its stupid, but they usually have them.

Yeah, sometimes you have to look in the "seasonal" section. You can always ask someone. It's not like your asking for a bunch of meth-making cold medicine or anything.

Personally, I can't find anything at walmart by myself. I always have to ask and it's usually there in the stupidest corner of the store. Fuck walmart but I wouldn't have been able to accomplish anything without it.

Yea Its not like I'm scared to ask.I did ask at everyone I went to and its weird cause the one with the jars had a giant section of them and the rest had nothing. It was the fact that no one in the garden section ever heard of vermiculite that really threw me off.I went to a few home depot's too and they don't have it.I guess its just not commonly used around here or something.I finally just ordered some but I wish I could just go buy it somewhere without having to have it brought to my house.

A lot of Wal-marts (and hardware garden centers) don't cary Vermiculite. Only perlite. Jiffy Mix is a seasonal thing (early to mid spring). Canning supplies are seasonal as well (spring to early fall).

Yeah, The same shit happen to me. Does anyone know where to buy Medium or Medium-Fine vermiculite on the internet? I searched like 5 search engines and all dead ends. I went to lowes and they carry the Fine shit. And I used fine vermi last time and it took an extreamly long time to grow in. And wal-mart has went to shit in the gardening sec.

You said you tried several walmarts, so I assume your in a decent sized city, don't you have a hydro store there?
I know mine sells large bags of 2 grades of vermiculite, and 2 grades of perlite, for WAY cheaper than wally, and HD
You could also try any nursries selling seasonal plants/flowers

NOOOO! Never use vermiculite insulation. Only Horticulture vermiculite should be used because it retains more water. Plus insulation vermi is handled badly by the factory who packages it because it is not suppost to be used like that. I like to take pride in my shrooms and I know you all like to also.

I was told that Walmart stopped carrying canning jars. Ace hardware has many tapered jars available.
Also, Lowes has horticulture grade vermiculite.

Yeah when I picked up supplies a few days ago, my Wal-Mart had jars but no verm. Just about everytthing else. I also saw bags of "Mushroom Growing Compost" was curious if you guys have seen it and any thoughts on it.

vermiculite is vermiculite, period. the only thing that makes some vermiculite "horticulture" grade is the size of the pieces. the insulation kind is sometimes really chunky, but not necessarily, sometimes it matches up to the medium grade horticultural vermiculite. it comes in bigger bags and generally costs less too if you find it as insulation. there's also verm sold as "bedding" for under swimming pool liners, and again, same deal, if the size of the chunks is suitable its just fine (though swimming pool verm is on the other side of the spectrum and is usually finer, they mix it in with cement to make the bottom of swimming pools.)

it's all handled and treated the same, the only difference is the sort/sift and how it's packaged

in most cases it' spent substrate used by growers and being resold for garden use, this is unsuitable for anything but soil ammendments for plants
