First Time, B+ On The Way...

This is my first time cultivating, and i have just ordered a B+ spore syringe from spores101 and it should be on the way. I have read through the forums extensively and just have a couple of questions. I know novices should start with just cakes, but I'm thinking about doing a casing. I have gone through different posts and teks and it doesn't seem that hard. I want opinions on weather this is a good route or not. I was thinking of making substrate cakes, then dunking them, and then making a cake. Please give me your opinions and i will be providing full detailed pics all the way through.

Not following exactly what your wanting to do. I agree with spicy tuna..you need to keep reading and tear up the Archives. I don't know how many teks and ideas you've really gone threw. PFTek is good for starts. It will usually give you results and teach a lot in what to look for, procedures and so on.

My first grow was wbs spawned to poo in turkey trays. I got over a qp dried so it is def possible. It is really easy, I wouldnt waste my time with the PF Tek just as long as you read read read and know for sure what you are doing.

Here's a very useful link for new growers.
Like Tuna said, read your ass off. I've spent about 4 hours a day, average, over the last two months reading these forums. And I STILL don't know shit. =)

I was thinking about doing the substrate cakes, then dunking them, then making a casing. should i dunk after making the cakes or just go straight to casing? my bad...i read my first post over again and the last lines make no sense. just lookin for some pointers from some of you with experience. its greatly appreciated. ive read liek 5 cake teks, 4 or more casing teks, and watched a dunking video and one tek.

After having done the PF tek I personally felt like it was a waste of time. Took to long and the results were not worth the effort. I would skip the cake part entirely. Use grain based spawn. It's faster because half way through or so you can shake it up and it will regenerate like mad. Then you can spawn to poo or case the grain and fruit it. For your first time I'd probably suggest just casing the grain and has fewer steps and less room for error. Use something other than Wild Bird Seed as your substrate because WBS doesn't have as many nutrients as say rye.
And yeah like everyone said read all the tutorials and archives on casing. Shouldn't have any troubles. Just my opinion and the facts as I understand them but there again I've been wrong before.

a good plan of attack: start a bunch of pf jars, grow some as cakes, crumble some and make a small casing or two. you'll experience both situations, if you screw one up you've got the other, and you can compare results for yourself... the best of all worlds. casings certainly aren't difficult but well done cakes yield pretty well too when considering the amount of substrate you're working with... and they look really cool when they grow i like both ways.

If you're going to make a casing I can't really see any advantage in making pf cakes. They take longer to colonize than a wbs or rye. The process of both methods is about the same and IMO one is not harder than the other.
The only reason you would use cakes is because you don't have a PC. I wouldn't recommend spending a lot of money on a PC if you don't know this is a hobby for you yet... but if you can borrow or get one cheap, do that.
I guarantee that any information that you need at your level is already somewhere on this wonderful website. You just need to read a lot more.

Hmmmm... wouldnt i have to make a cake first anyways simply to inoculate the jar before casing?
