astrophytum myrostigma graft

well i figured i would practice my grafting technique before my perskopsis get here. so i grafted a medium-large (4inchs tall) to a t.cuzcoensis. well the stock is perfect but the astrophytum' vascular ring had little woody spots around its edges and the tissue feels harder in those spots. do you guys think this will prevent the graft from taking? also i think i cut the astrophytum too close to its root so im not expecting any pups coming off of it, oh well. well i guess it good that astrophytum isnt one of my favorite cacti. oh yeah i rescued it from my local botanical gardens a few months back well i may not have actually rescued it if this doesnt take.

so far looking good. how long do they usually take to become attached on there own? i imagine it varies species to species and condition to condition. but a rough amount of time or what sign to look for would be helpful.

Should attach rather quickly. Usually give it 2-4 days before testing. A week to be safe and if all looks well. If it hasn't taken in several days. Then you should try again.

I wouldnt bother testing it out or bothering it. If it falls of or puckers in and dislocates then it didn't take. If it is flush to the bottom and or slightly rased between the scion and stock with flesh holding together then it should be ok too.

Its hard to explain. You just figure it out. But the less pokeing the better. If it doesnt grow at all in a month then probably the rings didn't match up.
