 About Drying

Ok, so I've been drying my fresh shrooms under a fan for a day and thought they would be good to put in a ziplock bag and so I did it. today I come from work and pulled them out. I noticd that they are not dried out yet and the stems turned green. Can I still finish the drying process? And are they eatible or did they go bad?

Yea this happened to me, but worse... I had a whole zip lock bag (the really big ones) filled so it was stretched out tight with potent shrooms. Stupid me assumed they were completely dried so I put them in there for storage and when I checked them out a few days later, they were totally ruined by mold-had to throw them all out.
If yours are a little molded, and losing some shrooms is a big deal to you, I think you'd be ok with eating them. I wouldn't eat them raw tho, try putting them in tea. Your taking a strong risk of getting sick, but nothing that will kill you, good luck.

Thanks Mustard, Now I know to dry my shrooms thoroughly. I don't think they look too bad, just smell like that nasty taste of shrooms, but I'll try to dry them and make a use of them somehow, because it was my first grow.

Just a review... They need to be *cracker* dry.
What does that mean? It means if you try to bend a stem it snaps. If it bends without breaking it isn't *cracker* dry.

Better yet, dont store in ziplock bags at all, as they will develop condensation.

a buddy of mine watched a grow for me while i was visiting home. He harvested around 2-3 oz's from the first flush and left them to dry. What he didnt realize is the container he let them dry in had some damp perlite in them. Needless to say when i came home i found about 3 oz's of mold sitting in a rubbermaid waiting for the trashcan.

i got that 40 vacuum sealer....kept them cracker dry all year

I fan dry for 2 days and then put in an airtight tub on screen above desiccant (Damprid). The damprid yanks out any moisure that was contained within the fruit. Then I seal in a ziplock in a roomtemp dry place.
