Over 40 and tripping
#5750198 - 06/14/06 04:29 PM (17 years, 7 months ago) |

Hey, after not tripping in about 8 years, and now over 40 I'm thinking about picking it up again. Is tripping over 40 just as fun?
In my early 20's the LSD and Shrooms were done for just for fun. But with maturity, my later voyages were very spirtual. I just feel I could learn some new things but mostly from high dose trips (4 - 5 g.)
Thanks

I say go for it. I'm young but I don't see any reason why you can't have a positive experience now.

I don't think there is any age constriction on tripping. If you feel up for it, go for it. What's the reason that you stopped for 8 years? If the last trip you had was a big catalyst to make you stop...it might be triggered in your next trip. If so, just be ready to deal with some excess mental baggage.

Over 40 and still tripping OK. Guess, if I live till 70 I still will be. Last Saturday a friend has fisited me, he's 51 and tripped on shrooms first time in his life. He says he enjoyed it immensely. IMO age doesn't matter much. Only in body load respect maybe. I'm sure you'll have great time!

I think it's quite naive, at a very young age, to say you know for a fact you will still be tripping in 30 years. You won't really know until you get there.
I was a "oh I'll for sure be tripping at 70" kinda guy...but now I'm not so sure anymore.

I agree...it's kinda more fun/exciting now than back then. Ducks-in-a-row= easier to let go when you know everything is taken care of,ie: Safe place, familliar surroundings that you created, only select people you let into your circle, etc. More controlled environment. People over 40!

I quit because I got married, had kids etc.
I also had some hard financial times - but things are just fine now.
I never did trip much in the first place. Less then 20 times between ages 19 and 35.
But I miss it and feel I learn more about myself.
I only did one high dose trip, and it was amazing - I felt one with the universe - I would like to feel that way again.

I'm 45. Married, mortgage, kids, all that jazz. Mr. Responsible. I've always been a lightweight, but amanita muscaria, salvia divinorum, and carmel colored wavy caps every once in a while are quite rewarding. I think age has nothing to do with tripping. I suspect there are many, many old fogeys like myself out here who still enjoy it.
Long may you run.

Hehehe it's good seeing all these guys who are married and have kids who still do the deed. Excellent stuff.
The way I approach it, as a hobby that I don't allow to intefere with my "professional, public" life, will hopefully allow me to keep doing it until I'm at least 55.

Has it ever been known for people to trip so much it looses its magic almost totally? like xtc...wether you take lsd, shrooms, 2ce or any other psychadelic...i mean the clouds and trees can only dance so much...

HEy. See my history and see where I have come from. I did a lot of acid in the 90's and mushrooms a few times, but didn't do anything for like 18 years or so until this site helped me to grow my own. I quit alcohol because of mushrooms. They have literally saved my life a couple times with their antidepressant properties, and I have found out so much about myself. I am 47 years old. I see myself tripping until I die.

I saw the date and thought - this person is in his mid-late 50's now. Is he still tripping?
I turned 58 recently and almost never trip. But I think about it all the time. The thrill and mystery has always stayed with me. It's like I don't even need to trip. The experience is in my thoughts all the time.
Soon I will retire. The kids are both moving out and it will be just my wife and I. We plan to buy a place in a shore town and I look forward to growing again and spending time by the ocean. Things are hectic in my life right now. Once that's all gone I'll be able to enjoy some peaceful tripping like I did before adult life began.

I only started intentionally tripping recently and I'm 55. It's one of the best things to ever come into my life in that it has really helped me get my head in order. Not to mention that I love it in ways that I just can't describe, it's fantastic, cosmic and I feel so freaking connected during and after. After chasing higher and higher doses, I've moved over to low doses and found another side to mushrooms, same drug but it seems completely different.

I had triping phases in my early 20s, mid 20s, early 30s and now 5 years later. I think you cannot be very enthusiastic about it all the time, that would be too taxing for me at least. That's why I have phases in which I am more entusiastic again and some pauses in between. The trips in my early 20s were wasted in group settings where everybody talks about their experience how crazy it is and what they see etc. The solo trips were fearful because of an existencial crisis and other shit going on in my life (man do I not want to be 20 again, no thanks! ) At a later age and alone you may have deeper trips so that it can seem like a different drug to you. So definitely worth it to try shrooms again at 40, 50 whatever.

Right, I don't think age is a barrier, as long as you generally healthy. I recall an interview with Albert Hoffman when he in 90's and he said he would take low amounts of LSD occasionally in his 80s. Actually as one ages they tend to get in a rut, and an occasional trip is a great reset.

My first trips were in the early 80's lsd then mushrooms, then E's .I'm into my 50's and never thought i would do trips again after quitting everything ,coke weed, then after one too many hangovers i quit the DRINK for good! Mushrooms are a treat and no dirty feelings afterwards..

As someone a good bit over 40 I like how this thread was dormant for 15 years and then was revived, possibly purposefully.
Like many others I trip a lot now and with greater purpose and impact than when I was young. No idea if that will continue for decades...

Since you decided to revive this old thread, here is my contribution. I'm 58, first time I tripped was two years ago. I never did any illegal drug. Got drunk only a handful of times back in college but I rarely drink more than one beer. I don't smoke and gave up caffeine a few years ago (I know, how boring). I haven't even smoked weed (yet). I did the mushies because of depression but I had always been intrigued by psychedelics before. I guess depression was a good excuse to try. Some trips have been good, others not so good but they always help my depression. Nonetheless, I always look forward to my next therapy (once every 1-3 months). I don't see an upper age limit on tripping, although now I see myself better able to deal with my depression even if I cannot trip (work and family life don't let me trip when I want/need to). Who knows, maybe a time will come when I don't need to trip anymore, but if I have to, I will welcome every chance to trip.

Hi, well I tried again, but my 10 year old stash seems pretty weak. I have been so busy that I didn't have the time. Then I got Covid and lost my smell/taste for 8 months or so (fully for a month then about 75% came back). I've been reading that shrooms have been helping people recover their smell/taste back. So I want to go on some low dose and micro dose for a bit. Also I've hearing that a trip can help older folks out of a rut, so I want to do some higher dosage ones as well again
