Monotub Help
    #5750085 - 06/14/06 03:45 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Ok I've tried searching through recent posts and through the FAQ but I still couldn't find the answers I need. I've grown before with a green house hooked up to a cool mist but this time I want to do a montub cuz it will save me some room. This is how I want to construct mine, please tell me what you think of it and if I should need to change anything. Instead of putting holes with ployfill in them like I've seen so many of, I was thinking of hooking up my cool mist to it to get proper FAE while hitting the humidity as high as I need it. But I was atleast thinking of putting a few holes with polyfill to get some other fresh air in their like in the grenn house. Do you think that would work/be ok to hook up a cool mist to it. I would only run the coolmist every so often as needed. With regular montubs with how do you get the humidity where you need it. Because the ones I've seen the substrate and the casing layer is the only thing in the tub. NO PERALITE. Also after I colonize my WBS and spawn it to hpoo do I want to put it in to the monotub and the monotub in to my TiT. or just spawn it in a seperate container and then place that container in my TiT?
Thanx

I used to grow in my martha also and now do monotubs with the same setup you are talking about with a coolmist helping with fresh air exchange. Your setup sounds fine after you mix your wbs put it in the monotub just make sure its coverd the hpoo will create enough heat and when it is fully colonized introduce light and FAE.

Do you put the outlet from the coolmist in to the tub all the way on top of the monotub? do you put any holes down towards the casing layer?

I've never used a coolmist for mine and still get great results. You don't need perlite because the humidity comes from the casing itself. Put a wet sock in a sealed rubbermaid and you'll get the same effect.

There shouldn't be anywhere to put perlite anyway (the substrate should cover the entire bottom)....
My guinea pig doesn't even bother putting holes in the rubbermaid container.
She wakes up --> take the lids of the monotubs ---> fans out stale air with the lid --> swells with pride at her mushrooms. --> repeats at night.
This works well for her. you know how lazy GPs are!

Thanks, bud! I wasn't too sure about that :smirk:

My guinea pig does put holes, and she doesn't even need to open it up to fan!

that looks more like a double-tub in the picture...i think that a monotub wouldn't do as well without any extra airflow. you'd at least need a fan or something going in the room to promote circulation to get the best results. i'm not saying it doesn't work, though i think you'd have a lot of mushrooms wilting over due to poor airflow.

monotubs and double tubs are the same thing, just with different numbers of tubs. nothing else changes.
you do need them in a room with good circulation or indeed you'll have poor air exchange.

yeah except for the fact that double tubs have twice the area, making it
a little less cramped for stagnant air.

not really. the area is the same, respectively.
if you are using a monotub, the idea is to find a taller tub. double tubs are nice because you can make them from tubs of any height that you can scrape togther.
