A Shroomery island would turn into a hippy-ish "Lord of the Flies" or something along those lines.

I just had this wild vision of someone being like "THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE WATER, IT'S GETTING CLOSER!" and all of a sudden TM shows up in a wetsuit and those flippy floppy shoe-type divey things, with Shane in his arms, and we're all like "dude, the puppy can't breathe underwater" and he's all like "oh noes!!!!!!111eleven!" and he actually says the 1's and elevens cause he's all interl33t like that. Woah. That was a mouthful.
I'm a misanthrope, I don't belong locked on an island with a bunch of people.

Oh yeah. I live on the island of Manhattan.

How far are you from Toronto? Reasonable enough distance to make it to beerfest?

The most feasible way to *build* an island is to construct a Habbakkuk which basically is an island made of ice, with an internal coolant system so that it even can reach into warmer climates. It sounds a bit perilous (an iceberg with a coolant system in warm waters ) but the Allies in WW 2 considered it feasible to construct one such Habbakkuk of 2.000 ft length. Alas, it was conceived too late in the war to be of use.

Ah, you must have also seen the recent documentary on NGC The craft was prohibitively expensive though.
I think our best bet would be to buy an oil tanker that would otherwise be cut up in India and clean and convert it. We could make a lot of rooms and halls in the tanks. We could put greenhouses on the deck. Maybe a hotel in the crew quarters and steering hut for some extra revenue. I think it should be parked in international waters of the coast of Europe somewhere. I can dream

Even if we can't buy an island we can sure as hell buy land near a rainforest and build a resort. Then easily charge people for tours of the rainforest. We'd have our own green houses, where we'd grow a lot of food. If it's near water have fishing trips everyday to catch fish to eat. Have a good storage area where we bring in food from the closest town, city. Even have a restaraunt if needed, to feed the people who pay to stay.
I'll go look up some land near a rainforest now, i'll get back to you guys after I do.
Peace, Droz

I didn't find any rainforest land, but I did find some really cheap Caribbean Island land.

Check them out, they are actually pretty cheap.

Oh and don't forget to check out the resorts for sale. There are three and in like 10 years we could easily afford one of these if we put our money together.
