Just found this on a nature hike.
Cap: wavy, creamy orange to light orange with a nub on top. Smooth texture. Stem: off-white to tan. Apparent vertical fibers. not hollow.
Veil: there are reminants of one.
oder: no distinct smell.
Enviroment: found in woodchips/dirt in the mountains in open light(not shaded). Had been raining a few days before and today.
Spore Print: in process
Gills: about the same as cap semi brown/orange. Seperated.
I found them all in one area, there were quite a bit growing together.
so here is the pics.

Thanks for the help in advance. I will have the spore very very soon.

Sporeprint will determine this one. If it turns out bright orange, it might be some type of Gymnopilus.
If you taste a tiny fragment of it, then spit it out, is the the most bitter, disgusting thing you've ever tasted?

there are species of Gymnopilus that are active correct? and is it very safe to taste a tiny peice if you are unsure without a sporeprint? The bitter ones are suposivly poisonous. I trust you being as you are one of the moderators, so just let me know.

Gumby "If you taste a tiny fragment of it, then spit it out,"
What he means is not for you to swallow any part of the mushroom, to simply taste it, but then spit out the mushroom and perhaps even wash your mouth out with water. Gymnopilus species are exceptionally bitter.

I see the term "gyms" thrown around alot. does that mean there is a species that is active? and if the spore comes out right I may have one?

Yes indeed. Gyms refer to the genus Gymnopilus. I only know of these 4 species of Gyms to be active.
Gyumnopilus aeruginosa Gymnopilus luteofolius Gymnopilus spectabilis Gymnopilus purpuratus

When looking for Gyms, I am often initially fooled by Pholiotas. The brown spore print on a Gym look-a-like indicates Pholiota.
