It is wierd how there is no set way that all of them will be going the same rate. I have a few that are doing very well at this moment but there is 1 jar that is a little behind the others. I have had jars that took 2 to 2.5 weeks before anything showed up in them so don`t worry. Nice set up. GL on your studies

Looks like everything is coming right along. Ditch that foil though... Those jars need to breath.

yeah ditch the foil if you have a dry verm barrier on those cakes...

yeah, if you put a layer of dry verm on top of the substrate before you pc'd it then it will protect your cake from contams. If you remove the foil, air flow will be higher therefore faster colonization.

Hey man, you should loosen the lids too. That works great IME. The jars with loose lids colonized much faster than those with tight lids.

I put 5 holes in my lids and ounce you pc them and they cool down you pull foil off then innoc then incubate. foil only for pcing so no more water gets in from the steam.

You can do what you want, but some experienced growers(roadkill) have been doing this for awhile and would not lie to you for thier own amusment. I say agn and for the last time, if you put the dry verm on it then you can take the foil off and let it breath, it will colonize faster. GL

removing foil allows for more air exchange which is needed for fast myc growth.

2 words . Personal Preference

There are so many different little ways to do the same thing , peeps do it the way they like .

It's the end result that matters .

A sterile quart of WBS is a sterile quart of WBS .
Peeps accomplish it many different ways . Whatever works and is comfortable to you .

The thing with the foil is , it doesn't really slow colonization .
It hinders FAE , but doesn't effect Gas Exchange . It doesn't create an airtight seal so built up gases can still escape .

I , myself , leave it on all my jars till spawning . Acts as a dust cover .

Incubating jars do not need FAE only gas exchange so foil does little to hinder growth you can leave it on. I like writing on the foil ie; inoc date, strain, full colonization date along with any other pertinent info. I also like using it on qt jars with Tyvek filters as it holds moisture in the jars better avoiding the top surface from drying which occurs in dryer incubators/conditions. GL bro

so what would be a good way to help them stay wet & not dry out & still let the air flow in with my foil ?
