perlite and vermiculite

is perlite ok to use instead of vermiculite?

there isnt any vermic sold around this area, but the wal-mart does have perlite..

would perlite work the same way vermiculite would inside (oh lets just say) brown rice cakes?

It could potentially work.

But it is very uncertain. I would suggest you try your hardest to get Vermiculate, the coarse kind if possible.

Search, instead of going to walmart, go to a garden shop near you like bachmans and such.

did that.. i live in a TINY kansas town, so our stores arent that.. adapt.

i checked the local garden shop, the two ace hardwares we have, the wal-mart, and the sutherlands....

no vermiculite..

i started the perlite jars (9 of em) two days ago..  my friend and i couldnt find any info showin perlite would be harmful, so i went ahead

i remmeber readin that perlite helps create more CO2 for the plants roots, so i figured id turn a few jars upside down to begin with..

ill have more on this experiment in about a month :wink:

Reason for vermiculite is it can hold lots of water.

Perlite is like a ROCK. dunno how much a rock can hold water.

Perlite will not work in the place of Vermiculite.

hmmm.. ive been clickin around and ive seen several nay-sayers.. butmainly i see people who say its worked for them cause they are in a situation like me..

i got my guide from erowid and one of its adaptations suggested makin a moisture resivour.. so i made 1 jar that has one, i guess ill just have to see how things work out.

keep an eye out for my name, and hopefully these cakes cultivate nicely.

General concensus is that it will not work well. extremely slow col. times, contams easily, but it MAY work if an absolute must. Good luck with your grows and welcome to the shroomery.
