Woodchip Substrate... Do I need a PC?
    #5745479 - 06/13/06 11:43 AM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Hey, Im experimenting with growing caerulipes indoors, and Im going to go about this by making a print and then making a syringe. Since caerulipes grow on woodchips, Im just going to get some from where I find them in the wild, mix some vermiculite around in there, and load them in 1/2 pint jars. I heard that a PC is required for WBS, popcorn and other non BRF substrates, so Im assuming one would be required to properly sterilize the woodchip/vermiculite substrate? Or would my usual pot with a rag at the bottom work?

Thx :rasta:

Some people have gotten away with boiling, but a PC is recommended. You'll need to isolate your spawn under sterile conditions. If you want to do an outdoor grow, you can probably simply wet the wood chips by soaking for a couple of days, then bury in a shady place with a bunch of fruit bodies you pick. Between the spores and the live tissue, they might just take off for you.
