MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA 2006 FINDS!

As most of you will know, the other thread got closed down due to people bitchin, wingin, arguing and generally talking absolute fucking shit. This thread is exclusively for finds and pictures related to finds of active shrooms in the Melbourne area, and other parts of Victoria.
I dont want to have this thread closed again so keep every single post in here find related. None of this "Hey i still cant find anything ive been looking in bushland and cant find anything." Its been said a million times that P. Subaeruginosa grows out of woodchipped/mulched gardens. Any questions you may have, consult the FAQ, and if your still confused then make a seperate thread. No one here is going to give away their patch, and if for some reason you believe they will, consult them through PM.
So, please, anyone who posts in here please make it either pictures or comments relating to the finding of active species in Melbourne, lets try and keep this thread open til the end of the season. Hate to be so blunt but im missing some of the awesome pictures that some of my fellow shroomerites were posting so if we can keep this civlised then it will be better for everyone.

The small mushroom in the 3rd picture looks alot like the P. Caerulipes that I am finding in Pennsylvania, USA. What type are those, do you know??

They are the typical P.Subaeruginosa. That mushroom was just really aged and beaten up.

Hey excellent. Hope to see some more craaaaazy melbourne patches! Last thread was a bitch to sort thru all the crap posts and find all the cool pics, lets hope this is thread is mostly pics and less useless posts... such as this one :p

Hooray for the rain at last. I found a few good ones, not many great photos but I found this big one.

Also found this growing directly from a fallen tree branch, haven't seen them like that before so I thought it was pretty cool.

AND... I found a piece of bark with a bright blue on it. Definitely not spray paint or anything (which is what I thought it may hve been) so is there a chance that this is the same 'bluing' from the shrooms? Might sound like a dumb idea but I have no other clue as to what it could be. First pic with flash, second without.

Uhhh i dunno... I mean, it is quite possible for mycellium to colonize the wood and then bruise, but that bruising looks greenish and rather bright neon like... not what i have observed with mycellium bruising.

Ive seen that green shit before on rotting logs - I thought it was paint or something until I noticed every log around(in a pine forest) had some on it, just a weird type of mould or something I think.
Nice pics all.

I like the trailer, where do I go to see the rest? That group in the middle of the trailer is insane there must have been 30 fruits in a 20 foot diameter.

I thought about that also but there was nothingelse ANYWHERE around, and I am 100% positive that nobody would be spraying weed killer where I found this. Also the fact that it was on the inside of a piece of bark doesn't make sense either.

theres are weird, they do contain the goodies but they look so different and even feel different, i may be imagining it tho.
 first ones a bit dark,
this is on wood u cant really see the color difference in the caps, there a normal sub in the middle and the rest have really bright yellow caps which are very domed.

i know most ppl will say they are just regular subs at different stages in the cycle, that may be true, just thought id check because they really do seem a little different.
i should also add, in the area where i find these, no matter how old or young they are they all have this shape, i have found lots taller than a can of coke, which still have very domed caps and looks exactly the same as these but bigger, i think all of these are generally bigger that "regular subs" as a whole. and they seem many times more potent, but that might just be me.

ahh fellow melbournites, lend me your ears,,, It has been quite a good mushroom season as most have told me (it's my first season so I've been happy with whatever come my way).
I'm just wondering, when will the season be ending? And considering that it hasn't rained in the inner suburbs where I'm planning to go, for about 4 days can I expect to find much?
I'm going with a mate with experience in hunting, but I'm unsure about what the weather situation will mean.

Generally season ends mid to late august but its all dependant on conditions. If its still 10-15 degrees and raining quite consistantly then you can expect to find some even through to late september.
As for your patch, all mine are pretty damn dry. You could have a look but most of my patches are either dormant or filled with dried out dead shrooms. Wait for the next decent rains.

Im finding some, but they are all cracker dry and withered. Alot of pins that have stopped growing due to lack of moisture. As i said a couple of posts up, wait for some more decent rains and then the season should be back in swing again.

Yeah, I spent most of Sunday tripping about the bush - pretty dry, but found enough to more than get the job done. I don't trip a lot these days, this was the first for the season - like meeting an old friend, eh...

I spotted a few yesterday in the middle of the city, a few pins and a few dodgy old ones. Under 10 there so not worth picking, however the area wasn't even 2 meters squared so they were doing well with what they had also saw some TOTALLY obvious guy looking at a patch right next to a busy road tonight. I got plenty there (at night) during the first rains, but haven't checked back since then.
Run out already ngalyod??

anyone having any luck yet? i went out last friday hoping to maybe find some and found absolutley nothing (except for like 5 very old ones). there were no pins and barely any other types of mushrooms either. then the very next day we had like the wettest day we'd had in ages lol followed by a couple more days of showers. was thinking of going for another look this weekend. was those few days of rain we had enough to get it going again? i hope so because the next few weeks are looking to be completely dry with barely any rain.

In response to the bluing log. I have seen this one time, as well. This was last Autumn, here in Washington. This picture shows the P. cyanescens mycelium turning blue, due to the exposure to the oxygen in the air. I hate to say this, because of the possibility of people deciding to dig up mycelium, but it contains the same active compounds that the fruting body contains. Here's a pic.

earlier in the season that isnt too hard in the north-eastern, southern suburbs or at Macedon, but you wont get too many of those kinds of finds this time of year. The season is all wrong weather wise.

Although so new to shrooming I haven't even picked my first lot yet, I'd like to call to everyone's attention the reality of climate change. The seasons are changing little by little, and I think you'll find the possibility of an extended season fairly realistic. We've been through a pretty cold, dry snap recently but I think the end of August start of September is going to be fairly productive.
Also, as to the ongoing debate of the wood staining, having had the benefit of growing up in the middle of a state forest (I was exposed to countless shroom seasons ... pity I didn't know what they were then!) I have come across wood staining quite regularly. The effect is known as sapstain, and it usually occurs after a tree has either been cut or fallen. A fungus called the sapstain fungus gets into the wood and stains it blue to dark black. It also damages the wood. You'll usually find this sort of staining in pine.
Sapstain
This is a pretty clear photo of sapstain with an accompanying article on what it is.
I've known of this type of thing for a while, but the specifics have only come to my attention since reading this. Learning is fun!
Cheers!
