Today I ran 11 km in one piece (6.8 miles) for the first time! The time was 1 h 4 minutes. I am a bit tired, but less than I imagined.
I started to run 2 months ago, 3-4 times a week ,along with losing some weight (I weighed 212 lbs at that time, now I am at 187 lbs, still some to lose.
My ultimate goal is to partake at a marathon at some time.
Who else is running and do you have any tips for me?

Impressive... I think I used to be able to do that- I know I definitely used to be able to do 10k's, but now I don't think I could manage it. Congratulations on the weight loss too, those 25 lbs must feel good

Hey I jog too, it kicks ass eh.
I haven't attempted 10k or anything yet (I should one of these days) but I go jogging each day for about 40 minutes. I like to do the jog, jog fast and hard, then full out sprint for as long as I can, walk a bit, then repeat
but sometimes it's hard, I dont have any energy that day. And I hate NOT jogging, cause its like "I just wasted another day so I'll be overweight for one more day, FUCK"
in time.. in time.

I suggest a mix of cardio and calisthenics. The calisthenics will give you good strength and act as a cardio routine. For example, you could do about 150 bodyweight squats and you will feel like you just ran two miles because your heart will be pounding so hard, you will be sweating profusely, and you will be breathing just as deeply. The strength you gain is different than running strength, yet complimentary. Your testosterone levels will rise and you will be able to maintain that balanced metabolism from day to day. When you don't run, do the calisthenics. Ofcourse, you should use your intuition to decide whether or not the volume is too great. Squats are killer just like a run. That's why you should keep in mind a variety of exercises like pushups, pullups, chins, handstands, and anything else that you can think of, which might be a better option because they are less intense.
There are days when you feel weak, like adamj said. Those are the days you could simply take a walk, swim or meditate. The goal is to maintain that balanced metabolism. You need to do something every day. It's a constant cycle of training and healing. When you don't take that time out to focus on one of those things, your overall effectiveness goes down.
Intense training will take a toll on you. It's like deforesting. You are the forest. When you cut yourself down, you need to plant new trees so that your supply of wood remains constant. The difference between taking a day off where you lounge around watching TV and taking a day off where you take a walk and meditate is great. There is a price to pay for not listening to your body's signals. Often times, when you train so hard, you become numb to those signals. That's why it's important to take the time to relax and really listen. Try to understand and do what's right in order to maintain your health.

nice work! Ive been running my whole life. (I used to run to school in elementary..lol..then change in the bathroom before class) I was a really good long distance runner until about 7th grade. I developed later then most guys so I got fucking owned in track and races. I lost interest because the reason I liked running was that I was so good at it.. it was one thing I was proud of. To be better then EVERYONE was awesome. Then I got knocked down to average.. haha. But anyway.. let me get to the point of the story! (sorry.. i got bitter on you )
Running is hell unless you do it and enjoy yourself. Don't make it a job.. make it a time where you can contemplate your life and kind of analyze things. Its a great way to clear your head up and get a fresh start going. As long as you enjoy it.. your going to get better and better. And I also find running a way of making my life a bit happier. Not sure why.. but the times in life when I'm running... I'm generally happier.
ok.. might be getting carried away here, so ill stop.
I'm also going to run my first marathon this year. I'm nervous but it should be an experience worth remembering! Post a report when you do one (ill make sure I will.)

i ran for 10 years starting from 6th grade. i was damn good. got 2nd in state in the 1600m (4:17) in HS (illinois). got a scholarship to SIU and ran 2 years on varsity before i quit. in crosscountry we run 8k's and 10k's in college, my fastest ever were 25:50 and ~33min. (these times of course are at my prime and in complete race gear, spikes, silk uniforms etc). You could easily bring that 10k time down i think with some good solid base work to bring your average pace up. but what do i know ;p
anything over 10k is brutal no matter how u look at it. its short enough (compared to a marathon of course) where you can have some real speed play involved and you really have to be awake/alert in the race. as opposed to a marathon where u just kinda drift off someplace for a few hours lol.
grats on the effort man, keep your runs early or late to beat the heat. keep an eye on your body at these distances, back off if u feel like youre breaking down more than youre recovering over time.
stay smooth and injury free and you'll see many more years of high endorphin charged, best shape of your life, sexy toned happiness.

Today I ran for 1 hour and 35 minutes. I don't know the exact lenght, but I timed my speed at the part of the track I knew the lenght of, and it was about 9 km/h, which would make 14.25km = 8.85 miles.
Current weight 181 lbs.

I later went with my bike and measured the track using a GPS, and it is 15.3 km, which is 9.5 miles.

running is fun... i remember the first time i ran for an hour i was surprised i can actually do it... and then once i realized i can basically run for as long as i can (which is much more then i'd usually want to) it wasn't an issue any more
that was a long time ago though... i doubt if i'd manage that right now it's hard to get motivated about running or working out
good for you

Yo, Anno.
First off, it sounds like you're doing really well and I'm happy for you.
Keep this in mind. Some day, you should try sprints. Sprint, rest, sprint, rest, until you get tired. It will make you stronger and it's fun.
