The right mind-set?

Everytime i heard talk about hallucinogens, i hear about mind-set and setting. I don't understand what the guidelines are for the right mind-set. I guess what im trying to a sk is what is the right mind-set to have before tripping.

Basically you have to be in a state of mind that is conducive to tripping. When under the influence of a hallucinogen, if you've got any problems on your mind or significant life concerns it is very likely that they will be brought to the forefront and will give you a bad trip. If you're afraid the hallucinogen will show you something bad or give you a bad time, it likely will. If you're in a positive state without worry and can't wait to bask in the glow of whatever you're taking, you'll probably end up basking in the glow of whatever you're taking. Your subconscious is super powerful; don't underestimate it, and take care of it before you take anything that can upset it.

Good advice. If something is stressing you at the time of the trip, just put the trip off until another time.

Thanks, it was never too clear to me. I do have some minor subconcious problems in my head quite a bit. I'm kind of a worrier some would say. Are there any methods in reducing the problems or some kind of meditation?

Everyone's got their own way to handle their problems in life. I find that weightlifting and meditation (Soto Zen style) keep me flying in general. Weightlifting is nice in particular; it's a wonder what endogenous opioids can do for your demeanor. The meditation follows that up with lowered blood pressure and better handling of stressors.
Find what works for you though. Don't worry about clearing your head specifically for the use of psychedelics. Clear your head for your own well-being; everything else can follow.

When your subconscious becomes your conscious, you will learn much about yourself. You just have to be ready and willing for it. that is what proper mind-set is all about.

if you enter a trip with an open mind and no expectations, it makes it a lot easier to control.

Yeah, you always need an element off control, cause sometimes you take a wrong turn in your mind and things start getting sketchy. This where the control comes in, cause then you can go back on yourself and continue to have a good trip.

At a certain point I always let go of control and that way I don't have a bad trip. In my experience, after you reach a certain point, if you try to take control, nothing positive will come out of it. Of course, lower level trips you can always redirect...
