i have a nice little patch with p. somniferums growing. they are around 5-6 inches high and starting to get nice and bushy. ive noticed that a lot of the leaves on the plants are turning yellow. they get plenty of water and sunshine, and are not growing all that close to eachother. what could this be? heat? climate here is pretty warm, but not so hot that wearing long pants would be uncomfortable

almost forgot 5-6inchs tall. is this because you didnt thin? maybe just your seasons. mine are about 1 foot - 1 1/2 feet tall already and flowering is right around the corner. maybe you need a sunnier spot next time.

I've got some Danish Flags, White Clouds, Black Clouds (all somniferum) growing in my garden. They are almost 6' feet tall and are flowering :

I live in Washington. Temp here ranges from 55 to 70 farenheit and they get full sun all day. All my lower leaves are yellowing and browning. Some are becoming crispy and seem to be drying out:

I've been advised not to water at this stage because it dilutes the latex, but it's rained at least once a week for the last couple months so I don't think they need water. Is this just something that happens when they start flowering? Maybe all the nutrients are going to the flower? I know it's not a deficiency because my soil is very nutrient. Compost, manure, all organic fertalizers like blood meal for nitrogen, bat guano for phosphorus, and greensand for potassium. Anyone know if this is common or what the cause may be? Thanks

It's normal for the leaves to yellow when the flowers and pods form. Clip the pods when the crown is up, and there hasn't been rain for a few days, and the pods will have colorful alkaloids

Yeah. Losing leaves is normal, especially when they start going from the bottom up.
Another reason for yellowing could be a defficiency in something, iron is quite a common one that causes yellowing of the leaves.
Find a fertilizer that has extra iron and minerals added, and use it as often as it says on the box and your plants should be fine
