Casings get Hot
    #5742227 - 06/12/06 03:21 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

My incubating casing is at 88 right now, 10 deg above room temp. It's just sitting on my dresser, not in an incubator or anything. Should I be concerned about too much heat? It will prolly get higher since it's only been a few days since spawning.

Depends on the size of the case, but they do produce there own heat,

I have just started the spawn runs at room temp,

So yeah I would be careful and back off the heat,

Now you know why I recommend against using an 'incubator' for cased bulk substrates. I believe it's one of the biggest reasons projects fail. High temps favor molds, lower temps favor the mushrooms. Don't let your substrate get over 88. If you have to, move it to a cooler room.

Yeah I listen but it takes time , what finally motivated me, was the summer heat, there was no way that I could control the heat spikes, and more then few bags died.

So maybe back in winter I will, but then it will be set lower then I once did.

I am crossing my fingers. If I get contams I'm gonna be so pissed. I wasn't in the most sterile room when I spawned either, but I guess not as much attention needs to be paid to sterile technique once you reach the spawning point right?

If it's small enough and you have an adequate cooler (igloo, styofoam, whatever), I'd place the casing in that with a rotating 2L bottle of frozen water.
