Building a bar
#5742065 - 06/12/06 02:38 PM (17 years, 7 months ago) |
|
|
I just went and bought a bunch of booze:

From left to right: Remy Martin V.S.O.P. (cognac...good shit), Tanguray (gin), Bailey's original Irish Cream, Dewar's Special Reserve (scotch), Grey Goose (vodka), some Cabernet Savignon, Captain Morgan (rum), Cabo Wabo (Tequila), and Wild Turkey "Rare Breed" (whiskey)
Does anybody have any more suggestions on other stuff that I should get? I should get the actual bar in the next few days...oh boy!

This Cabo was like $45 for 750 ml. It was my most expensive purchase. I guess Cabo Wabo is owned by Sammy Hagar (from Van Halen) and he is really picky about making the tequila pure and authentic (no chemicals and shit).

Get some falvored vodka's to make drinks for the ladies.
Also might wanna add some premixes for the same reason.

Get some Triple Sec, Peach Schnapps, Midori, Cream de Almond, and if you want to get fancy, some Galliano. Also, you need several non-alcoholic ingredients for mixing, such as Grenadine, Sweet and Sour mix, Tonic water, Club Soda, Coke, 7-up, Orange Juice, Pinneapple Juice, and Cream. And that's not even half of it. A full bar needs more than one kind of each liquor. For example, if I want to make a Mai Tai, I need some Myers' Rum, but if I want to make a Zombie, I need Bicardi 151. Nice start, though.

Forever? Probably not. But there are tons of drinks that use it, so if you drink or serve drinks with any kind of frequency, you can go through it fairly quickly. I doubt it spoils as quickly as the regular fruit juices.

You should get Bombay Sapphire instead of Tanqueray. Also you need a bottle of Patron. Anejo.

shopping list, you can build it on a budget and still have a decent selection, if it's mostly your mooching friends that are drinking your booze, buy well brands like Mr.Boston, it's suitable for mixing, SilverSoul made some good recomendations (why isnt he a bartender?)
other recomendations are Cointreaux, Chambord and most anything you'll need for shooters and such, as well as various liquers like the triple sec, creme de menth and creme de cocoa and amaretto. generaly you want at least 2 types of each liquor, a top shelf and a well brand. each will have their purpose.

Know i'm new here, but i've had a good bit of experience with the home bar. Also i used to bartend The absolute essentials (for personal drinks) are: Makers Mark JW Black Label Tanquarey/Bombay depending on preference Absolut/grey goose/belvedere, again depends on preference 1800 for marg's and general mixing Don Julio Anejo for sipping Hennessey Courvosier
Add to those: Lemon Juice Castor suger triple sec the basic schnapps (about 5 of them) Grenadine Concentrated rose's lime juice Grand Marnier
Hardware: Shaker strainer measure peeler for lime/orange peels
OR you could just do this: 12 Pack Fat Tire Makers mark glass ice beer mug
Up to you

Yeah, woodford reserve is a great drink, but i find that makers mark is a bit tastier. No right or wrong to bourbon, just preference!
And yeah, blue label is great stuff (i've had it twice) but not worth the dollars in my opinion. If i'm gonna plunk down on scotch, i just go for a nice old bottle of talkisker. SO much peat flavor, yet so refined.-sigh-
