Theory on how to guess the number of shrooms you're getting before starting

I'm not sure what you know about the hayflick limit, but basically the hayflick limit is the number of times a cell can divide itself before dying out. Basically, this is the current theory on why people grow old (look it up on wiki , btw the avg human hayflick limit is 52 ). So this is my theory, first of all, the hayflick limit of any living organism has to great enough so that the organism has time to reproduce and carry on the next generation. This is kind of obvious otherwise we wouldn't have life on earth. Therefore, it is safe to say that simply one psilocybe mushroom spore has the POTENTIAL to grow in the very least, 1 shroom before it "grows old". If people can effectively contain 1 spore and see exactly how many shrooms it can produce in it's lifetime before it dies (I'm estimating no more than 2-3), then that way, you can tell how many shrooms you could expect from your crops. Let's say you were anal enough to count exactly how many spores were in the print/syring and how many you deposited into the jar/whatever (this is also assuming that all the spores survived but i'm sure you can have a percentage deduction from the total spores). Therefore, lets say you put in 50 spores and you know that providing they have enough nutrients, you can expect at least 50 shrooms from them, etc...
Now, my logic has one major flaw I can see: I don't know shit about mycology. For example, what happens when two spores come into contact with each other? Do they decide to "build a shroom together" and share DNA? Exactly how do spores reproduce and is it true that it only takes one spore to make a shroom (although i think with the hayflick theory, that's true).
Thanks for listening to me ramble about the shit that goes on in my head and before you ask me, no I'm not baked . Peace + Love = Happy

The problem with yields is not limited to the problem of aging, which in mycology we call senescence. The problem is related to dozens of factors that must all be balanced at once. Think of pinning strategy as a circus tightrope walker who has to juggle six bowling pins while balancing a stack of plates on his head. One wrong move and it all crashes. It matters little how old the tightrope walker is. Nice thought though. RR

Hmm, i disagree with your last part since old age does make organisms inflexible and it is a siginificant factor. But i strongly agree with you that there are millions of factors that go on that are equally important that determine the amount of crops you get. I would be interested in knowing how spores reproduce though and the general structure of mycelium. If you have any links that would be great. Thanks!!

The best source of information is to get a copy of "The Mushroom Cultivator" by Paul Stamets. It's in bookstores worldwide.
The reason I said the age of the tightrope walker matters little is because he's almost sure to drop something before dying of old age. In a perfect world, all our projects would live to a ripe old age. In reality, after a few flushes, they almost always seem to fall to other factors than age. RR
