If it has formed primordia that don't want to grow, check your moisture. You might need to dunk. If the cake took a long time to pin, there's a chance most of the moisture has evaporated out.

Thanks RR. How should i check the cake's moisture? I've never come across any information on that.

If i dunk the cake it will drown the primordia currently growing but rehydrate the cake so that more can grow efficiently, is that correct?

Thanks

is injecting the cake with a syringe of water another viable option?
Heard that mentioned in a post before.

No. it will not evenly distribute the water. Just pick off the existing primordia which may have aborted anyway for lack of what heat issues or direct misting. Follow hippie3 bleach dunk tek and re-initiate. If your fc is a tub you may try making it into a TIT. Not the cheapest but I have seen it work before

Wait. Do NOT pick off primordia. Go ahead and dunk if you're not sure because it can help and certainly can't hurt. Pins will often double or triple in size during an overnight dunk and begin growing again. Just put your cake in cold water overnight and use something to hold it under water. A large jar with a lid works well, or you can leave it under gently running water in your sink for ten to twelve hours. The reason for using cold water is to prevent bacteria growth during the time the substrate is under water.

Some people just throw them in the fridge in a rubbermaid. I have heard of people poking whole in dunked casings to get the water to fully permeate. I think the max dunk time is 24 hrs but not sure. I guess the primordia can grow under water? I just figured it would about since over misting caused them to about..or is that more in the pinning stage?

yeh i had read a few posts and teks saying to never heat the terranium (and a few others that seem to swear by it) but i didnt consider heating the room, thanks RR.

IME, I find that when my terrarium is heated during the winter, I get the best flushes. When the heat is on during the summer, I get horrible flushes. So I guess the new saying should be to use heating when necessary.

Thanks guys, i will dunk overnight tonight.

I'm not horribly concerned if this cake doesn't fruit (not that i dont like mushrooms  ), i just want to make sure i can build a sufficient environment in my FC to induce fruiting for when my next 10 BRF cakes are ready to be birthed.

Thanks again for ur input

sorry, i forgot to ask if you recommend i roll in oven-cooked verm after dunking? i asssume so as this is standard practice. i did it initially after birthing.

cheers
