sorry if this Q has been answered elsewhere, i havent read any reference to it in the PF teks i've read.

It produces fine results, if you grow for the taste and hate psilocybin

yeh i know, i went to an organic grocer to get BRF and he took me too it and guranteed me that despite the fact it looked very white it was in fact BRF.
I bought this flour and used it to prep some jars last wk and then went and bought more from a different store today that i know is deffinetly BRF and it looks a lot darker than the stuff i used previously. so now i dont know wether i should tip out the first cakes and redo or chance it and see if they colonise. i don't want to tip them out because i already lost some due to contam but i guess its better than waiting around for nothing

brf can be very light... after all, brown rice is just white rice with a husk... just so happens the husk is the part with all the nutrients.
white rice flour is extremely white like chalk.
brown rice flour can range from very light tan to the color of brown rice... just depends on which brand you get.

so the jars will still colonise with white rice flour? 6 days after inoculation and no myc or signs of contam, now i'm hoping its because it is in fact white rice flour, that is an easier prob to fix!

Next time you make your cakes if you can't find brown rice flour then just pick up a bag of organic brown rice. Then take it home and toss it in your coffee grinder. Grind the rice till it's a powder and walla...BRF

I go to the grocery store and pick the rice with the highest amount of carbohydrates. The point of the rice flour is to provide an energy source for the mycelium. IIRC, there was only a 1-2g difference between white and brown.

You should check the dates on posts before replying to a thread. This one is 5+ years old.
What "chemical fertilizers" are you planning on adding to the rice? Don't bother with white rice. If you can't find the flour just grind up some regular brown rice in a grinder or blender as was mentioned earlier in the thread.

Well excuuse me because what I get from reading this community's posts repeat posts are hated. AND I just found out today that I am allowed to post my own posts/topocs. Plant fertilizer, what other kinds of fertilizer exists?

understandable. at least you were using the search function
plant fertilizer won't work because you are not growing plants, you're growing fungi, and the requirements are quite different.
Make your own BRF, or spawn it to bulk like coir. Both good suggestions.

It's not just about the carbs. Mushrooms degrade material at the cellular level, and it's the outer hull or bran that makes brown rice superior. White rice works poorly, when it works at all.
To the original poster, fertilizer is for plants. Mushroom mycelium is not a plant. Feed it whole food. RR

If you think that your mushrooms will require plant fertilizer, then do your self a favor and read more for another month before you even attempt an inoculation.

I wasn't trying to attack you bro, merely an observation. Like trophycase said, if you believe you can use plant fertilizer for growing mushrooms you really need to do a lot more reading. I don't know about a month's worth, but you should at least have the basics down.
