Need help...can't find these anywhere online....
    #5739167 - 06/11/06 06:59 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Ok guys, I'm not online too much, but I'm a big fan of mushroom hunting/consuming.  The other day, I found an interesting mushroom growing locally, in a public park near a large natural stream in central pennsylvania.  At the moment I don't have any pics ready, but I am working on getting some up in the next day or two.

Here's my description thus far, if its confusing, i'm sorry....i'm a noob.

Cap: 1/2 - 2 1/2 in. bell shaped when young, becoming convex, margin becoming wavy with age. All have a central, dark brown knob, rest of cap being a light brown/yellowish color. Surface texture is rough, dry, becoming wrinkled w/ edges cracking with age.  Cap also has tinges of blue green color, esp. along cracks.
I cut one in half, and the flesh is white, but did not turn any color.

Gills: close to almost crowded.  Dark brown, almost black.  Spore print dark brown/purple.

Stem: 1 1/4 - 3 1/4 in. long, 1/16 - 1/4 in. thick, solid.  Light brown/yellow  w/ heavy tints of blue-green, BEFORE any handling.  Rough texture, with slight wrinkles running up and down with the stem.

Found them after a period of about 3 days of rain, low 60s.  They were directly under a coniferous tree, but was surrounded by deciduous trees.  Growing from tree bark mulch, mostly as clusters of 3, 4, or 5.  Some growing as singles.

Sorry this post is so long, but I've been searching everywhere like all weekend, and I can't seem to find anything close to these.  Any advise you guys can give me i would greatly appreciate.

Incredible descriptions......for anything to be half way close in my opinion pictures are essential and even then dont believe anyone a 100%........for the possibillities in your area for that spore color and habitat for safety reasons DONT consider anything without DEFINATE PURPLE in your dark brown to blackish spore prints AND DEFINATE BLUE reaction.....this eliminates POISONOUS mushrooms and indicates ACTIVE.....

Remember PURPLE and BLUE combined and youll be safe......now these shrooms can range out of these color ranges but so do all the other undesirables......if you have to ask if its BLUE bruising and PURPLE color present in the spores than it AINT!!!

get those pics if possible and there are poisonous mushrooms that have spores the same color as your mushroom you found and poison shrooms that bruise BLUE......but not both in your area.....

EDIT : This is what you wanna be lookin for in your area along stream beds and areas......

Ok, it took a few days, but I got my pics up, w/ the help of my girl.

I'm not 100% my description above is accurate, but the mushrooms I'd  like to have id on are the first two pictures, on page 1.  The other mushroom pictured I believe is a Wine cap stropharia?

If you guys can help me confirm what I have I'd appreciate it.  I don't think they are active, but I can't seem to find these online anywhere.

The Mushrooms in the top two pictures are a little dried out but look almost exactly like the P. Caerulipes (blue foot) that I am finding in east PA. They are almost always found near a stream or river in mulch or wood chips. The bottom three pictures I cannot ID because i really dont have enought info to let you know but they are def not active. I would say you have found blue feet for sure and from much expirience from my personal patch, are a very fun magic mushroom. The usual dosage that I take is between 8-10 fresh mushrooms thought I have eaten more. Nice find!

Happy Hunting!

Wow nice finds to go along with the descriptions.....found two of the best mushrooms you can find on a hunt.....said the 2nd page wasnt available from the site and when I tryed to upload your pics to this thread it wasnt allowed because they were too large......

On the first definately have 'active ' Psilocybe most likely caerulipes as mentioned and very potent looking

be sure always to have in all your mushrooms the Purple in the Dark Brown to Blackish spore colors AND the distinct BLUE bruising you have there cause this eliminates poisonous shrooms when they are present together....sometimes cutting the shroom will help expose the Bluing.

On the others very good I.D. on your part as those are classic Stropharia rugoso annulata a prime edible......now thats just the ones I can see in the pics that have the dark purplish caps and those rings on the stems which can come off as it appears has may of happened and of course having the same colored spores as your Psilocybes.

Cool, you guys are gettin me antsy!  I can't wait for it to rain again, I'd like to get some more.  The ones I have I picked when they were already starting to die off and dry out, so it was a little difficult to get a good, definate sport print.  But I'll try again really soon, and I'll make sure there's purple in the print.

In the meantime, I'll just sit on the ones I already have, just in case.
