I have heard that about 80% of Newark is ghetto. Just make sure to stay in the 20% non-ghetto area.

Hey dude. i also got accepted to Rutgers Newark.

As for the neighborhood its not to bad. theres a tech college across the street from Rutgers and the area its in isnt too bad and they have a lot of security and shit. A friend of mine goes there and he walks home from the bar late at night and its allrite. The city of Newark as a whole is pretty bad though.

do you know anything about transferring to New Brunswick from Newark? If i can transfer after a semester im probaly gonna do that but if not im gonna go elsewhere.

I used to live an hour from Newark, my friends and I would make day-trips in because of the spectacular heroin. They're dope is amazing.

I used to take 3 hour trips just to get the dope in Newark.

Place is gully as fuck.

There's really not many 'safe areas' to put it simple.

If you're white and clueless, you're gonna get jacked.

i visited a few years back, pretty sure i went to the newark campus. it's not a bad campus, it's like it's own little town. bars and liquor stores and stuff right on campus which is handy. i think it has the highest std rate in the country though, or atleast that's what everyone says. i wouldnt really want to go to school there. it's too big for my tastes. if you're really considering going it's definitely worth visiting before you make a decision.

That's not saying much considering that all college campuses are like that.

i have friend's that live in Newark..

if you are smart, use common sense, and don't get a place to live in the 'hood'.. then you'll be fine.

not ALL of Newark is super-ghetto.. just most of it.

and, you can always live slightly outside of newark and take a bus to school or something...

yos-

the only benefit to living in newark is that you're a stones throw away from manhattan.  Other then that, NJ SUCKS ASS.  I lived across that rotting stinkhole for 18 years, nothing ever good came out of that state.  Newark is no exception either, high crime rates, some of the worst cops in the country, and everything else shitty about nj (higher taxes, shitty people, it's nj).

If you have no other choice go for it, but if you have some options id look into them.  The best thing to do would be to spend some time there if you can, im sure after a day or two you'll want to escape.
