Where'd they go!?

I found a big cluster of mushrooms yesterday morning a few miles away from my house, I took a sample to a friend for identification and it turns out they're active... But today I went back to pick them and they were gone! Yesterday and today were hot days... And I know nobody else could have picked them... Did they dry up? After a day?

If they were active someone picked them......what species did your friend 'confirm' them to be and what were they growing from.........and did you by any chance tell your friend where you found them.......could they have been misidentified Coprinus which redily dissapear (melt) ?
thats my CSI on this heist....
there werent by any chance any little 'TROLLs' seen lurking in the area before you left were there ???

It was a very secluded part of the woods, nobody would have found them.
However, I looked 'Coprinus' as you mentioned, and that's what they appeared to be. They looked like this: http://www.collectivesource.com/fungi/newpages/jpeg/Coprinus_plicatilis.JPEG
Except they were blackish-blue. Could they of been Ink caps? Is that why they 'melted' so quickly?
I also noticed small white stains on the leaves that where around them, looked like bird shit...

Yeah, I called him, he said they weren't active, but edible. He misunderstood my question. Oh well, no harm done if I would have eaten them. Frustrated the hell out of me though, one day they sprout, the next day they melt... Stupid ink caps...
