Birthing my Myco-Bag ?
    #5737335 - 06/11/06 09:09 AM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Hey

Ive got my myco bag to the point where its ready to be birthed, im wondering whats the best method for me to do this.

Ive been following instructions from this site http://www.myco-farm.com/

Its all gone well so far ( i think its fairly fool proof ), but im unsure whether this last stage is the best thing to do.

It says to just roll the sides of the bag down then put it into the humidity tent, im assuming this means that shrooms will only come from the top of the bag.

Would i get more from my flushes if i was to take the colonised grain out of the bag completely then put it into the tent, because then shrooms might come from the sides aswell ?

This is what it would look like if i followed the instructions exactly.

I only got to thinking because ive never seen a cake that has its sides covered, wouldn't it be best to have as much area for pins as possible

Thanks for any help/advice, very much appreciated !

Sorry to be a pain in the ass bumping this, but i need to birth it today really.

I don't want to use the manufacturers method if its going to give me less shrooms.

Thanks

that is not a cake.
it's a casing.
casings have their sides covered.

dunno much about kits and what not.
Follow their instructions!
Do exactly as they say word for word and you will achieve the results they say.

a grain bag, some casing, and a ziploc with perlite.
ha.

how much did that run you?
While you are waiting, use your time to learn how to do
this stuff on your own without a kit.
you'll have much better success for less money.

I think you best off following their directions to the "T" because then if anything goes wrong, they might be sympathetic to your problems. I don't know what sort of guarantee this place offerers but you would surely void it by removing it from the bag! Secondly, they provide a casing layer, use it! Its purpose it to keep your substrate from drying out by covering the part that must be exposed to the air for fruiting. It also provides the best climate for developing pins. BTW I don't think your yield would increase much if at all by removing the bag. However, if you decide to dunk after your first flush then you would get the opportunity to see how it will flush as one big grain cake.

*edit* got beat to my response  but its all good advice

It cost me 30 pounds ( about 55 dollars ) for the kit + spores, i found out my local headshop was selling them.
Since i don't have a card to buy anything online it was my only option really.

Im reading on everything as much as possible
I need to buy afew things but im getting there, im just hoping i can get some good, contam free prints off this to keep me going.

This is my first attempt but im enjoying it so i'll do my best to learn and improve.

Thanks for your replys !

Thanks alot man, thats a good idea .

I doubt ive got any guarantee with this, it looks healthy though.

I'll see what yield i get from my first flush then consider dunking, if its ok then i'll just do what it says and spray heavily.

Thanks again !
