Need help with food dehydrator!!

I was at the family thrift today an saw a food dehydrator. I almost creamed my pants until i realized it was only half lol. I bought it anyways because t was only 50cents. It is a Nesco American Harvest food dehydrator. It is all plastic with 3 i would say 12 inch radius circular trays an a top with a handle an just a switch no temp setting. I was wondering does anyone have one of these an could post some pics? can anyone post some pics of their dehydrator, I'm just gonna hook it up with like a tube for a bottom but i need to get a good idea of what kind i should use. Also do you think it will be set for over 120 degrees, cents their is no temp settings?? should i turn it on an test it with a thermometer??

sounds like the entree edition. upload is full for pics, sorry. I do own one.
the temp I think is pre-set to 130 or so. I took mine apart and replaced the motor with a case fan.
I use the snackmaster pro unit though.
Dunno if it will work without a bottom?

I don't have that model but I just took my case apart and cut the wires running to the heating coil. It took 5 minutes and if I ever need it to make heat again I just have to solder a 2" piece of wire back in. Should be just as easy on yours. Good luck.

so i should cut the wires to the heating coils an i should be set?? it will dry them out in 24-48 hours?? Your right monstermitch it is set to 130 i jus got done using two different thermometers to test it. So 130 is way to high

i would leave it intact unless you know what you are doing by disconnecting the heating element instead of just cutting it.

130 will not hurt them. Higher than I like though. Either leave it be or make sure you know exactly what you are doing.
you could start a fire by just cutting the wires and leaving it as is. Personally, I just replaced the heating/fan unit with one of my own, but that's a bit of work.

I've got one of those. Don't cut the wires to the heating element. You want the heat to help it dry. But not only that, I have had mine apart before and the fan runs off of the AC current through the element then goes though a bridge rectifier. Basically what I'm saying is that you can't just cut the wires to the element and have the unit work.
As long as you have trays the bottom doesn't really matter. Just place the bottom rack on something flat and hard.
Mine runs at 150 and no noticeable loss in potency.

most dehydrators will run at around 150 for jerky making if there is not heat adjustment on yours.
