Look what I found.

Was walkin down the street other night and came across these on the front nature strip. It was raining and I only had my phone for a picture so its pretty bad, but just have a look.

The cap of the shroom was connected to the bottom of the shroom, and as it grew it stretched the cap all the way out. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Cool man - they look like shaggy ink caps to me, Coprinus Comatus. An edible.

I have found one before, I didn't try it though. If left out for too long they turn to a pile of black goo.

Apparantly they are best when young in the button stage. Be careful, you want to know your shit before collecting buttons - deadly ones out there.
If an expert can confirm my ID, you should fry them up - sauteed in butter I hear they are good.

I agree, the shape, texture, and size looks like Coprinus comatus. Verify that they have black spore prints and that the gills blacken in age and become inky.

Hey eris - are there any look alikes to these? Or are they pretty safe to ID?

Feelers, I'd say
take a spore print of it, and also some more in focus shots before we can properly identify.

The large ones are C. comatus.
