I was just wondering how many of you have gone through bad (terrible) trips and have come out with no mental damage? I'm sometimes worried about what ive heard. Any one gone through ego loss or death without any sort of damage?
thank you in advance for all posts.

I've only had one bad trip. And it was the most important moment of my life. Let's just say I played cards with a devil for 3 hours while stuck in a rundown cabin, in the middle of nowhere, in the beginning of June, while it was snowing.
I thought for sure my soul was in hell and that I wasn't coming back... I was CONVINCED of that. I'm not sure how many people can relate to how serious I thought it was.
But I have no mental damage from it all. Just a better understanding of reality and how our beliefs affect it.

"I've only had one bad trip. And it was the most important moment of my life"
Me too. Well, bad parts to many trips, but that's what it's all about. Bad trips can be great.
"I was just wondering how many of you have gone through bad (terrible) trips and have come out with no mental damage?"
Many, Many people here have had bad trips. Terrifying, thinking you are at your last breath of life. It's an amazing experience looking back. Ego loss is *not* a bad thing. It's one of the most amazing things psychedelics offer.
Damage would be extremely unusual for just having a bad trip. If it scares the shit out of you for a very long time, PTSD perhaps. Not common though.

I've had my share, I always have partial bad trip, but mostly good. Only once was my brain and body seriously shocked for a whole week after a bad trip, and that was because it was a level 4 or so, and it got extremely intense, at one point I was 100% sure I was going to die.

I wouldn't exactly call it 'survivors' of bad trips, seeing that most people generally always survive them, but I guess if you're talking about mentally...

I've only had one trip where I was freaked out the whole time. All the other times its a really good trip, and it starts to go bad, then I meditate or walk and it goes away. Walking is a good way to get that anxiety of your chest, and your mind off thinking crazy. You get a quick enough change in scenery to keep up with your enhanced thinking to keep you pretty entertained and sane. I've used walking many a times to sober up while shrooming. Laying down somewhere comfortable (sometimes its hard to get that way), and closing your eyes and concentrating on the slideshow of imagery, trying to manipulate and morph your images, you can used that like meditation to get away from your negative thought loops. If your having one of those "Heaven, to Hell, to richard simmons basement" kind of trips, then your only options would be put your head betwen your legs and call for mommy or give in and listen to what the mushroom has to say. Sometimes they just happen, and as painful as they are, they teach you the most, so do remember to listen to them.

I'd say 99% of people mentally survive them too.
Even the most absurd, demonic trips I've seen people have, where they're spitting all over people, screaming in tongues or jerking off in front of their parents.
Heh, one such case, when the person came down, they just said. "Okay guys, see ya later." with no apparent recollection, and was fine instantly.
If a trip sends you into permanent psychosis, I'd say you very likely had an underlying mental illness. This doesn't mean it should be taken lightly. Those cases are still quite serious, even if not caused by psychedelics alone. Especially keep this in mind if you're younger. Many mood and personality disorders might not begin to be fully apparent until 17-22 years of age. Just a thought.

would i know if i had a mental disorder. At times i do feel a bit bi-polar when tripping, though that may just be do to the drug.

You'll want to edit that first sentance if you want to stick around here. (probably too late).
It's normal to feel mentally unsound while tripping. It's kind of the point.
And no, you wouldn't neccesarily know if you had a disorder at this point. Things come out later in life.

I've had some bad trips where I never thought I would escape and was locked inside psychedelic hell for many hours. I always came out of it to trip another day though. Take the good with the bad. No permanent damage has ever been done though, even with the bad trips.

I've had only one real bad trip, it was off MDA. I thought I went schizophrenic for about 3 hours. Holy shit that was scary. I was actually tired for once while on E so I just laid in bed and went to sleep, woke up and I was fine.

I've thought I've gone too far, was never going to come back, that I was going to do something stupid like jump off a building and fall to my death. I'd randomly drop to all fours and pound the ground to ensure it was still under me. I'd curl up in a corner terrified it was really 3 days later and I'd be comming to (if at all) in a pile of my own vomit and piss, or in a hospital, or in jail - but too out of it to realize where I was.
and you know? it was/is also one of my best/favorite mushroom trips - as the heights it took me to were also stellar and amazing.
as far as I can tell, I have no damage - and if there is any, I'm enjoying it :P

Stop being such a pussy. Im sure half the people on this forum including me have gone through terrible trips and came out of it the same. In fact many of my extremely bad trips have toughened me up and I came out of alot of them stronger than I was before.
Ive learned that these terrible trips can give you the skills to deal with really shitty experiences in life whether your tripping or not.

I once took 4 hits of acid (3rd time to do it, friends said it was weak, so i dosed a lot, but then they call after i dose and tell me it just takes a while to kick in) and situationally had to lay in a bed in a room alone all night... Time seemed like it wasnt passing, and i was stuck in udder delerium + hysteria + dymensia nad felt like the only thing that helped was to laugh like someone in straight jacket would in a nuthouse. The only thing that kept me going is the thought that if i could surrvive this, i could surrvive anything.
The next morning i drove for about an hour, and was still tripping kinda, but things were back to almost normal again... and it was the most beautiful thing i had seen in a while... and i am stronger and not damanged...
Ive had ppl tell me though that theyve seen things which they will never forget and forever be terrified of in memory... so i donno...

Bad trips are the ones which will change your outlook on life for the better.
Dont let your ego bitch you around. Let your spirit know whats up.
Ive gone through a "hell" trip, and I came out of it just fine! Well... except for the 10 stitches I had to get on my hand...

Ive gone through a few bad trips and gotten through them greatly. i NEVER let a trip effect me in a bad way... whether it be a negative or positive trip, it always effects me in a good way. I know what a bad trip is. i know how it happens, and I'm not scared.there is a way around every negative feeling in your mind, whether you are tripping or sober.
last time i tripped it was the most intense experience of my life. it was lots of fun, but then things got tense... probably because of the sober people we were with. the trip turned inward so quickly i didn't know what to do about it. at that moment, i knew what it felt like to be COMPLETELY looney. i just wanted to walk off and disappear from the world. but i calmed myself down which in turn made my trip 1000 times better. whenever you are at a point of not liking the effects, you cannot fight it. thats the biggest mistake. you need to lay down by yourself and focus on breathing, listen to headphones too. This is what i think to myself when I'm in a bad moment- 'You are having anxiety and you are on a psychedelic... you have the power to choose your own destiny, so how do you want to feel?' and things turn for the better... if it doesn't help i know that i will be back to normal the next day.
when tripping, i can now think about a bad trip and it wont effect me.its like the bad trip is in a big orb that i am protected from... if the orb ever pops in my face, i am prepared to handle the situation with the unlimited powers of the mind.
