Okay, so I need your guys expert advice on scammers. I'm selling my car on craigslist and here is the order of email's i've been a part of:
Him: Hello, I am interested in this vehicle, pls do get back to me with your firm price if its still available. I just have these few questions left: 1. Whats the general condition of this vehicle? 2. Can you make yourself available for the shipping company when they will come for the pick up? Please get back to me. Best and kind regards,
Me: It's still there sitting pretty as the day she was built
General Condition 1. The condition is pretty good for a car thats over twenty years old. It runs a bit hot if your idling for too long. Most of the fabric is in very good condition, although some of it has bleached from the sunlight. There is a sizable tear in the fabric in the trunk right next to the driver-side tail light, but its nothing ungodly. If you couldn't see in the picture the hood paint has experienced some oxidation, but upon last check there was no rust on the body.
Sun roof comes out beautifully for those warm summer days. One window sticks sometimes and the others motor is touchy, so you have to help it a little sometimes, it might be an electrical problem, i've never looked to far into it.
The tags expired at the beginning of this month, but it made it through DMV fine last year so that should be no worry.
2. I may be busy next week at certain times but there should be no problem me being there beyond that.
The price is still $1100 if your interested, I'll gladly accept cash or a money order, or an offer within reason is always given an open ear.
and him again: Hello, Thank you so much for your update. I am glad the vehicle is in good shape so I will take the vehicle for $1,100. I'll update you as to when shipping arrangement will be made so that you can be available when my shipper get's to your base to arrange pick-up and to handle the transfer of Title. Payment will be mailed to you for the vehicle via UPS and I'll let you have the tracking number to track it as soon as it sent. The selling price for the vehicle/Shipping fees is included in the payment. Please can you give me your solemn word that you will forward the shipping funds to the shipping company as soon as you have it cashed at your bank?. The funds are meant for Insurance,Taxes and papers for the vehicle. I'll update you as to when shipping arrangement will be made so that you can be available when my shipper get's to your base to arrange pick-up and to handle the transfer of Title. Please send your full Name/Address and Telephone number so that payment can be sent as soon as we conclude on all arrangements. payment would be inform of Money Order. Please attach photos's of the interior and the engine. Get back to me. Regards,
My spidey sense is tingling about this. I've never sold a car before and never anything online. This is what really gets me: "Please can you give me your solemn word that you will forward the shipping funds to the shipping company as soon as you have it cashed at your bank?."
wouldn't that be paid for in advance? or by the reciever!? why doesnt he make any remarks abou the car specifics?! There already ARE pictures of both the interior and the engine on craigslist.
Any advice you guys have is more than welcome thanks -WWonka

dont hand the title to anyone until you have 'cash' in hand, wait for the check to clear or what ever, it's his responsibility to take care of shipping and payment

it sounds like he is saying: "pay the shipping when you get the full payment."
doesnt seem implausible.. but if he is arranging shipping i dont see why he doesnt just pay for it himself.
either way, dont do shit until you get that $1100 in your bank account.

I am definitely proceeding with caution. I am terribly afraid of getting scammed out of my money and my car, so im gonna be an obnoxious seller and keep up with the spidey senses
