Coprinus Comatus - ideas and thoughts?

Well I'm sorting out a flow hood, and I'm keen to experiment with the wonderful world of edibles. Should be able to sort one for about $140 US if I get my shit together.
I found a young shaggy ink cap (Coprinus Comatus) and didn't eat it, as I wanted to see this "turn to goo" phenomenon. Pretty cool
Anyways, I was reading through The Mushroom Cultivator and spied a nice little picture of an obviously successful grow. Are these very tasty, or nothing to write home about? Has anyone grown them before? It it worth the hassel? So I grabbed the "goo print" out of the fire place, figured I could still use it, if someone so convinced me it was possible.
Any thoughts on them feel free to add, I did a search here in the edibles forum,-not one post on this species, I was a little surprised.

I've grown them. They do very well on pasteurized horse manure. You need a clean culture, rather than try to get a clean 'goo print'. RR

I have to agree with Rodger. You will find it difficult to get a clean culture from the black goo. But it is possible to grow this species.

How good are they supposed to taste? Fantastic or on par with agaricus?
I'll have access to agar, also I have the dried stem which I could probably use too. Thats a nice pic workman.

I think they're better than Agaricus bisporus. I've grown Agaricus, but I don't have any experience to share as far as Coprinus comatus cultivation goes .

Hey Feelers, give them a taste if you get a chance. They are pretty good, they don't taste real mushroomy, to me they sort of taste like scrambled eggs.

Seems like I read somewhere about boiling them to stop the disintegration. Anyone heard of this?

Hey shroomaker, I've heard that to keep them from dissolving you should keep them submerged in cold water. Boiling would probable destroy the enzyme that makes them liquify so it should work.
