At first glance that looks like a Mycena. A spore print will be needed to get started on an ID on that one.

As Mitchnast said, it's not active. It's probably not edible, there's a good chance it's poisonous.

Happy mushrooming!

You've gotta stop with this finding random mushrooms and asking if they're active. That's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
Do some reading and find out what active mushrooms grow in your area and where to find them. Try reading the FAQs.

Yeah.. i'll agree that is pretty lame; Whether you are picking mushrooms for research or for consumption, you should probably do some reasearch or atleast look in the FAQ. The chances of you finding the shroom you are looking for by wondering around your yard are pretty slim.

Hey, wait a sec... I thought this was the SHROOMery not the PSilocybery?!?!?! Maybe this person WANTS to know what it is? Not everyone is into mushrooms JUST for tripping. Or am I alone? haha.

Shroom286... I say you should join a group, such as this one...

http://www.wpamushroomclub.org/

They may know which strains are indigenous to that particular area since they hunt and study in that particular area. Just a piece of advice. There is also a Book called Mushrooms of North America. Its a large full color photo book of species common in the North American continent and Ive seen that one in my copy before. I just cannot find my book, sorry. Hope the advice helps.

I really hope that's the case.
Unfortunatly most posters that do this kind of thing end up being your average teenager that's looking for a cheap and easy high. Tell em' it's not active and they say "aw, fuck it, i'm gonna go pick another random mushroom and hope it'll fook mi up."
I'd be delighted if they were genuinely interested in mycology... like I said, most of the time that's not the case.

You hijacked and resurrected an old post, only to ask a question that violated the rules.
